HALF: Kentucky leads Carleton University 55-19 at the intermission

Carleton University came into Saturday’s game as one of the top programs that Canada has to offer, but they’ve stood no chance against the Kentucky Wildcats through one half of basketball.

At the halftime break, Kentucky holds a commanding 55-19 lead in what is game No. 3 of 4 for the ‘Cats on their Big Blue Bahamas Tour. The score was knotted up at 4-4 in the opening minutes before UK rattled off a 19-2 run that completely blew the game wide open. Kentucky stretched its lead to 35-10 at the under eight-minute timeout before extending it out to a 36-point halftime advantage.

With assistant coach KT Turner taking control of head coaching duties, Kentucky rolled out a fifth different starting five of the trip so far, going with Cason Wallace, CJ Fredrick, Chris Livingston, Jacob Toppin, and Lance Ware.

Jacob Toppin was the star of the first half for Kentucky, adding 12 points, one rebound, and one assist on a perfect 5-5 shooting clip. The senior forward was in his bag, knocking down a pair of triples and two impressive mid-range jumpers, as well. Illinois State transfer Antonio Reeves poured in 10 points on a 3-6 shooting clip while Sahvir Wheeler is up to 12 points and three assists on 6-8 shooting. And of course, Daimion Collins had a couple more highlight dunks.

Kentucky is shooting 56 percent overall from the field while holding Carleton to just 26 percent, including a 1-11 mark from beyond the arc. Carleton has turned the ball over 16 times — which UK has turned into 25 points — compared to just five for the ‘Cats. Kentucky is also dominating in paint points (28-6), bench points (32-2), and fastbreak points (13-0).
