This is how you know you're from Kentucky. Friday a coworker of mine excitedly told me he was going to the track on Sunday. Trying my best to seem interested, I gave him the advice that any born-and-raised Kentuckian would give- pick the horse with the best name and try not to lose more money than you make in a year. Turns out "the track" in Indiana refers to the checkered flag kind and not to the horse kind. Hilarity ensued.
Here's what you missed overnight, sleeping off your hangovers and nursing your sunburns from your first day at the pool:
-The Courier Journal recaps Antione Walker's troubles post-Kentucky and maps out his road to redemption. When you want to repair your PR image, associating yourself with Pitino and the Cards seems like the most obvious choice, wouldn't you agree?
-The Herald-Leader has an inspiring story about a Kentucky kid living a real-life version of the Blind Side, including this quote:
"I don't even care what sport it is," he said, "as long as I had 'Kentucky' across my chest, I'd be the happiest person in the world."
Love to see him in a Kentucky jersey in the future.
-Jerry Tiptonreports that Harrellson and Hood, along with the rest of the Reach USA team in China, got 45 minute shampoos and massages in the "head and shoulder area". I'm not sure $2 will buy you a bottle of Head and Shoulders here in the states.
-8 psychotic overreactions by adults at youth sporting events. My father could beat most of these acts in his sleep. Amateurs.
-In a recap of sports not related to Kentucky in any way-Venus lost at the French Open, Roy Halladay recorded THE second perfect game of the season for the Phillies, the Lakers are in the NBA finals again, and the Blackhawkslead the NHL finals 1-0. Oh, and Kendry Morales broke his leg celebrating a grand slam. Slow weekend.
-What in the wide, wide world of sports is going on in Bristol?Who knew that "people who poop in trash cans" is a protected class now? They really need to update their Human Resources college textbooks.
-Speaking of trash cans....I have to say, it never gets old seeing bodily functions taken care of on national TV.
