Joe Price Named Next Kentucky Wide Receivers Coach

During the Mark Stoops era, the Kentucky wide receivers coach wasn’t too different than the Defense Against the Dark Arts professor at Hogwarts. A cursed position, nobody seemed to stick. One can only hope that this is the start of something new as Will Stein ushers in a new era with Joe Price III coaching the Kentucky pass-catchers.

Price is a Texas native who spent the last six years at UTSA. He created a connection with Stein during their time in San Antonio.

“Joe and I go back to our coaching days at UTSA and I’m thrilled to add him to our staff at Kentucky,” Stein said in the release. “He is energetic, detailed, and connects extremely well with players. He’s just an incredible person and I know he will make a tremendous impact on our offense.”

Price had a few different titles during his time with the Roadrunners. He got his start as director of player personnel, then spent four years coaching the wide receivers. Over the past two seasons, he was also the associate head coach and pass game coordinator. In this humble blogger’s opinion, his best title is what they call him on the recruiting trail, “East Side Joe.”

“I’m grateful for the opportunity to reconnect with Will Stein and join his staff,” Price said. “We worked together for three years at UTSA and I believe in what Will does offensively. Between Coach Stein and Coach Sloan, there’s a clear vision for an explosive offense, and the chance to be part of something unique and special at Kentucky is really exciting.”

Outside of one year at Illinois, where he was the director of high school relations, Price has spent his entire career in the Lone Star State. His father, Joe Price Jr., coached high school football in Texas for more than 30 years. He logged nine years at one of the best high school football programs in America, helping North Shore win a pair of Class 6A-DI State Titles. During his final season in 2018, North Shore went undefeated and was named the MaxPreps National Champion.

A Houston native, Price is bringing deep Texas ties to Kentucky. The Wildcats dabbled in recruiting in Texas during this last cycle. We could see much more of that during the Stein era in Lexington.
