How LSU flipped 5-star DL Dominick McKinley

LSU offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Joe Sloan is a busy man, dishing out offers to multiple quarterbacks this week.

2026 Greensboro (N.C.) Grimsley four-star quarterback Faizon Brandon and 2026 Ft. Lauderdale (Fla.) American Heritage four-star quarterback Dia Bell both added offers from the Tigers.

LSU actually hosted Bell for a visit this fall, getting him on campus for a game. The son of former NBA player Raja Bell, Dia also visited programs like Miami, Florida, North Carolina, Ohio State, and Penn State as a junior.

According to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies, Bell ranks as the No. 47 overall prospect in the country, No. 2 quarterback nationally and No. 8 prospect in Florida.

LSU joins a group of programs to recently offer Brandon, joining Oklahoma, Texas A&M, DukeLouisvilleNC State and North Carolina. The attention is coming quickly, but Brandon is handling it well.

“I have tried to handle this pretty well,” the new LSU target said of handling his recruitment. “I am just trying to build relationships with all of the coaches. It has been a blessing have all of these offers early. I am pretty much trying to take it all in and build relationships to see what I like with coaches and take notes of what I like and don’t like and what I have learned from them.”

Brandon passed for 3,026 yards and 36 touchdowns with just three interceptions as a sophomore last season. He also added 528 yards and nine touchdowns on the ground en route to leading Grimsley to a 13-1 record and an appearance in the North Carolina state semifinals.

At 6-4, 185, Brandon is ranked as the No. 3 quarterback and No. 68 overall prospect in the country, per the On3 Industry Ranking. He is also ranked as the No. 6 overall recruit in the state of North Carolina for next cycle.
