The Recruiting Show: LSU signs 5-star DL Dominick McKinley, Top 5 2024 recruiting class

LSU football signed a Top 5 recruiting class on the On3 Rankings, the highest of the four major rannkings services.

In total, the Tigers inked 28 high school prospects and one junior college prospect to finish with 29 signees between December’s Early Signing Period and February’s National Signing Day.

After the dust settled from NSD, here’s a look at On3’s 12 highest-ranked signees the Tigers landed in 2024.

Weston Davis – OL

On3 Ranking: 5-star, No. 4 OT, No. 23 overall, No. 5 in Texas

Davis finishes as On3’s highest-ranked LSU signee, though he only edged out 5-star defensive tackle Dominick McKinley by one spot in the overall rankings. Davis has been a mainstay on a nationally ranked Beaumont United basketball team, but he picked up football as a sophomore. Now, he’s 6-foot-5.5, 285-pounder who leaves high school as On3’s No. 3 offensive tackle in the 2024 cycle.

Dominick McKinley – DL

On3 Ranking: 5-star, No. 3 DL, No. 24 overall, No. 1 in Louisiana

McKinley was a late flip from Texas A&M, making the switch on New Year’s Eve before signing with LSU in February. The five-star out of Acadiana High in Lafayette put together strong junior and senior seasons, finishing as On3’s No. 3 defensive lineman in the 2024 cycle and the top prospect in Louisiana. With a need for defensive tackles, McKinley was a massive get for the Tigers.

*****

Trey’Dez Green – TE

On3 Ranking: 5-star, No. 2 TE, No. 32 overall, No. 2 in Louisiana

Green is the second of LSU’s trio of five-star signees who started out as a basketball player, then converted to football midway through high school. Green had 800-plus yards receiving and double-digit touchdowns in both his junior and senior seasons, and the 6-foot-6.5, 230-pounder gives the Tigers one of the biggest mismatch tight ends in the country.

*****

Gabriel Reliford – DL

On3 Ranking: 4-star, No. 7 DL, No. 50 overall, No. 3 in Louisiana

On3 finished higher on Reliford than any of the major recruiting sites as the Evangel star closed out as a Top 50 prospect and the No. 7 defensive lineman in the country. Reliford was dominant across his final two seasons on Evangel’s defense, and he was an All-State selection both seasons after totaling 251 tackles and 15 sacks across that stretch. In December, he was named LSWA’s Most Outstanding Defensive Player of the Year in Class 4A. Like two of the three players ranked ahead of him on the list (McKinley, Davis), Reliford flipped from Texas A&M to LSU.

*****

Dashawn McBryde – S

On3 Ranking: 4-star, No. 9 S, No. 103 overall, No. 4 in Louisiana

McBryde set the Denham Springs single-season interception record as a junior, and he jumped on board with the Tigers in the offseason ahead of his senior season. At 6-foot-3, 200-plus pounds, McBryde brings college-ready size as a Top 10 safety nationally and the highest-ranked defensive back in Louisiana.

*****

Kylan Billiot – WR

On3 Ranking: 4-star, No. 17 WR, No. 108 overall, No. 5 in Louisiana

Billiot continues LSU’s run of cashing in on former basketball stars turned football prospects. Billiot’s focus had been on the hardwood, but the past two seasons he put a lot of focus on improving on the gridiron. It was enough to earn an offer from LSU at summer camp, and he had no trouble getting one-on-one wins against some of the nation’s best cornerbacks during the All-American Bowl in San Antonio. Billiot soared up the final rankings to finish as a Top 20 receiver nationally and top five prospect in Louisiana.

*****

Caden Durham – RB

On3 Ranking: 4-star, No. 8 RB, No. 116 overall, No. 20 in Texas

Durham stacked up state titles, rushing yards and touchdowns during his time at Duncanville High – one of the nation’s most-talented high school programs. One key to his success: speed. Durham, who will also have the opportunity to run track at LSU, clocked a blistering 10.25 100-meter dash and a 21.12 200-meter dash as a junior, and he’s set to be back on the track for Duncanville this spring. That speed translates to the football field, and Durham showed time and again that if he gets to the second level of the defense, he’s likely headed to the end zone. LSU only wanted to sign one running back this cycle, and Frank Wilson had his sights set on Durham from the start.

*****

CJ Jackson – EDGE

On3 Ranking: 4-star, No. 19 EDGE, No. 153 overall, No. 17 in Georgia

Jackson settled into the final On3 rankings as a Top 20 EDGE rusher and the No. 153 overall recruit in the 2024 cycle. Early in his high school career, the Georgia four-star debuted as a Top 100 prospect. For much of the past year, LSU fans had all eyes on Colin Simmons as the top EDGE rusher target. But quietly, the Tigers stayed on Jackson and ultimately flipped him into the class after a brief period when he was committed to Georgia Tech. At 6-foot-4, 220 pounds, Jackson is a talented pass rusher who has a chance to play a big role in LSU’s defense once he’s adjusted to the college game. Jackson could be viewed as one of the steals of the class for the Tigers.

*****

Ethan Calloway – OT

On3 Ranking: 4-star, No. 17 OT, No. 176 overall, No. 7 in North Carolina

On3 is the lone recruiting service to rank Calloway as a Top 20 offensive tackle prospect, finishing out as a four-star and Top 200 recruit. LSU’s personnel and scouting department is among the best in the country, and the hat tip here goes to LSU Player Personnel Analyst Carl St. Cyr. At the time, St. Cyr was still a student assistant, but he found Calloway as a young player in North Carolina who showed promise. LSU became the future four-star’s first offer, and the Tigers fended off plenty of competition to land the North Carolina native – whose hometown is the furthest from Baton Rouge among all 29 of LSU’s signees.

*****

Joel Rogers – S

On3 Ranking: 4-star, No. 23 S, No. 265 overall, No. 7 in Louisiana

The 6-foot, 190-plus pound safety did it all at West Feliciana in Saint Francisville. Not only did Rogers play offense and defense on Friday nights, he also suited up in four different sports. Rogers carried the team to wins with big plays on offense and defense, and he closed out as a Top 25 safety nationally. Now, he’s on campus in Baton Rouge as part of a talented young safety room that will be tapped into for playing time in the coming seasons.

*****

Tylen Singleton – LB

On3 Ranking: 4-star, No. 20 LB, No. 284 overall, No. 8 in Louisiana

Singleton has been a star on Many’s defense for his entire high school career. It began when he earned MVP honors of the 2020 2A LHSAA State Championship game as a freshman. Singleton went on to land First-Team 2A All-State honors in 2021, 2022 and 2023. LSU has veterans returning at linebacker, which will give Singleton time to adjust to the college game. With his size and production, the Tigers have high hopes fo the state’s top linebacker prospect.

*****

Xavier Atkins – LB

On3 Ranking: 4-star, No. 21 LB, No. 291 overall, No. 44 in Texas

Atkins moved from Louisiana to Texas ahead of his senior season, but he returned home to college despite a hard press from the Aggies. And if you want to turn on impressive high school film, check out the senior tape from Atkins on HUDL. He logged 110 tackles, 18 tackles for loss, 10 sacks, 14 quarterback hurries and a pair of interceptions this past season. And like Tylen Singleton, Atkins enters a great situation at linebacker given the Tigers have returning starters – meaning new defensive coordinator and linebacker coach Blake Baker (who once had Atkins committed to Missouri) will have time to develop the four-star prospect.
