Tennessee four-star cornerback Ondre Evans has backed off his commitment to LSU, he announced on Wednesday. At the same time, Evans announced a commitment to Georgia.

Evans committed to the Tigers on June 15, picking LSU over a double-digit offer list that included summer camp scholarships earned from colleges like Georgia and Alabama.

Evans made a midweek visit to Athens that tipped the scales in the favor of the Bulldogs, sources tell The Bengal Tiger staff.

The LSU staff has cornerback commitments in from Louisiana four-star Ju’Juan Johnson and three-star Wallace Foster IV, as well as Florida four-star Cai Bates.

After signing one true cornerback in the 2023 class in Nevada’s Jeremiah Hughes, the Tigers shifted safety signee Ashton Stamps to cornerback this offseason, and he’s already earned a start during his true freshman season.

The Tigers leaned heavily on the NCAA Transfer Portal this past offseason, adding four transfers in Texas A&M’s Denver Harris, Southeastern’s Zy Alexander, Syracuse’s Duce Chestnut and Ohio State’s JK Johnson.

Alexander has started in every game this season, while Harris has been in and out of the starting 11 on defense. Chestnut has not been with the program the past two weeks, and LSU head coach Brian Kelly has yet to update the cornerback’s standing moving forward. Johnson was injured in fall camp and will miss the entire 2023 season.

LSU is still courting high school cornerbacks, and the prospect highest on the wish list is New Orleans three-star cornerback Bernard Causey, who has had a strong senior season at Kennedy High. Causey is committed to Ole Miss, but an offer from LSU in September has the Tigers trending on the On3 RPM to flip the Louisiana native from the Rebels.
