Oklahoma Sooners defensive lineman Jayden Jackson (65) celebrates during a college football game between the University of Oklahoma Sooners (OU) and the Alabama Crimson Tide at Gaylord Family - Oklahoma Memorial Stadium in Norman, Okla., Saturday, Nov. 23, 2024.

The Crimson Countdown is officially on for the 2025 Oklahoma football season. Everybody wants to forget about 2024 and move forward.

Head coach Brent Venables and staff have attempted to do that. New face calling the offense (Ben Arbuckle). Venables calling the defense, it’s now or never for this regime at OU in the SEC. No beating around the bush.

Every day as we get closer to kickoff, SoonerScoop.com will count down the days with you. Starting with No. 99 and working our way to No. 0, we’ll be there every step of the way.

2024 stats: Played in 13 games, started in 10, 30 tackles, three tackles for loss, two sacks

2025 outlook:

His freshman season was just a taste of what’s to come. Think a lot of people weren’t sure if Jackson was going to be ready for that moment. Well, he was, and now he’s ready for bigger and better things to come.

Jackson became a hot prospect to watch in terms of being tampered. But OU kept fighting the good fight and kept Jackson in Norman. You can hear how the veterans talk about Jackson. They know what’s in store and how much it can be going forward.

Jackson won’t sneak up on anybody this season. Other teams will do what they can to stop him, so that will be an adjustment.

But he’s bigger, stronger, more mature and understands the defense a lot more. Add that all up and look out and have fun for Jackson in his sophomore season.

2025 defensive tackle outlook

The biggest storyline of the post-spring portal window was with David Stone. Entering on a Friday night and removing himself two days later by Sunday afternoon. With Stone locked up, you’ve got a quartet that should be incredibly impressive. Damonic Williams and Gracen Halton have been around the block a time or two. And here comes Stone along with Jayden Jackson to grow up and become monsters in the middle. OU has some depth around them as well, like adding Ricky Lolohea, but this group is going to be about what this foursome does. How good they can become? And how quickly it all happens.
