OU LIVE practice viewing notes: Cayden Green gone
OU media members were standing around wondering if we were all crazy. We’re not. Offensive lineman Cayden Green was not present at Sooners practice Tuesday afternoon.
And now we know why. Green told On3 he intends to enter the transfer portal, a massive blow and shock for the Sooners going forward.
Green was sensational at offensive guard this season as a true freshman. He became the starter and never looked back for head coach Brent Venables.
The lingering question is going to be about his position. Green was recruiting out of high school to be an offensive tackle, but he adjusted to the guard spot just fine.
It had gone so well that Green was even named one of the weekly captains for the BYU week. It is hard to think of a bigger stunner for OU in transfer portal defections.

*Quarterback Jackson Arnold looked the part. The quarterback room is now his with Dillon Gabriel headed to Oregon. We’ll see how quickly Arnold is ready.
*Your five captains were Drake Stoops, Ethan Downs, Danny Stutsman, Billy Bowman and Woodi Washington. Stutsman and Bowman, of course, delighted all OU fans by announcing in recent days they’re returning to Norman for the 2024 season.
*It was Gavin Sawchuk leading the running backs. Jovantae Barnes was looking good, and Tawee Walker was still there. Walker announced for the portal last week but is still going through bowl practices, at least.
*With Andrew Raym declaring for the NFL Draft, the position to circle has been center. Troy Everett, though, was just standing to the side. It was true freshman Joshua Bates getting all the reps during the limited viewing period.
*Defensive line was about watching a couple of guys get back healthy. R Mason Thomas and P.J. Adebawore should be huge playmakers for the Sooners. We didn’t get to see a lot from them in 2023. Perhaps bowl prep can springboard them in 2024.
*It has been a rough couple of months for cornerback Gentry Williams, but he was out there and working at cornerback. Mentioned Washington, and he has not stated his intentions just yet. He could return to OU for one more season, could hit the portal or could declare for the NFL Draft.
