It’s the middle of May, OU football is supposed to be taking it easy. The team? Well, it actually is. Guys went home, mission trips, micro-internships. The calm before the Schmidty storm.

But the coaches? Head coach Brent Venables and staff don’t have room to breathe just yet. And maybe they’re not done with Team 130, either.

It’s the Unofficial 40 podcast from SoonerScoop breaking it all down. The gang returns to talk even more about what OU might look like in 2024.

Defensive tackle back open?

It has nearly been a week, and we’re starting to see more movement for OU when it comes to defensive tackle. The Sooners surprisingly lost Jermayne Lole to Texas, so Venables and Todd Bates are back at it.

The name du jour right now?

Multiple sources tell On3 that Oklahoma is expected to host Louisiana Monroe defensive lineman Adin Huntington this week.

A former Kent State transfer, he finished with 63 tackles, 16 tackles for loss and 8.5 sacks in 2023. The 6-foot-1, 281-pound defensive lineman can play defensive tackle or EDGE. He wrapped up an official visit to Cal on Wednesday and previously visited DukeTulane is another school in the mix for Huntington, who has one year of eligibility remaining.

Murray carving his niche

Nobody is wondering about the recruiting prowess of running backs coach DeMarco Murray anymore. He has absolutely shown what he can do in recent classes.

And Josh McCuistion just happens to keep finding some of those commits as he has been working on his spring football tour in the state of Texas.

Murray was a hot commodity in the assistant coaching circles. It was huge for OU to keep him, and that train should keep on rolling.

All that and all the banter you’ve come to expect from the Unofficial 40 podcast by SoonerScoop.
