Unofficial 40 podcast this week focuses on recruiting, WCWS

by:Carey Murdock06/08/23

The Unofficial 40 podcast is released for the week of June 7. This week we focus mainly on the Brent Venables Football Camps which are underway in Norman. With that, the SoonerScoop staff continues to track the players coming into Norman such as the future at quarterback. Last week we saw Michael Hawkins and Kevin Sperry both workout for OU coaches. Sperry wasn’t in town to just look pretty. He came in to work with his future offensive coordinator Jeff Lebby

We also took note of several campers who left town with official scholarship offers. Josh McCuistion is dropping in this week from back home in Houston as he prepares to come back for Thursday’s high school football session.

Even though Oklahoma doesn’t currently sit on On3’s list of top transfer portal winners, the Sooners have been bringing in players at positions of need, such as the defensive line. After commitments from Phillip Papa and Tennessee transfer Da’Jon Terry, the Sooners might have another issue: scholarship numbers.

We breakdown what all of that could mean on this week’s pod and Carey Murdock even has a way to buck the system.

We continue our special softball coverage this season

The Sooners have started their run to another national championship at the WCWS as we recorded a lengthy preview of Oklahoma’s Championship Series showdown with Florida State. Eddie Radosevich, Bob Przybylo and George Stoia are in this week to preview the series. With Oklahoma winning game one, they are just one win away from their third consecutive national championship.

Even with a win, the guys point out Florida State is a very dangerous team coming into this WCWS, including Kathryn Sandercock, who did not pitch in the opening game of the championship series.

You can listen to our podcast every week on iTunes, Spotify, Google Podcasts, Stitcher, or your podcast platform of choice.
