Greenville (S.C.) four-star wide receiver and South Carolina commitment Mazeo Bennett has seen about all the Gamecock football program has to offer, so his official visit weekend was about something else — his future teammates.

“Just hanging out with the guys,” Bennett said. “The guys I’m gonna be with when we get here and stuff like that, just getting to know them, (and) recruiting as well. So you know we had a lot of big-time guys here this weekend so we were recruiting a lot.”

The highlight of Bennett’s 48 hours on campus was spending time with the other prospects on campus, both the ones already committed and the ones he was trying to get to join the commit list.

Bennett was joined in Columbia by seven other Gamecock commitments as well as four uncommitted priority targets.

“For sure it was amazing,” Bennett said. “So hopefully we get some more commitments as good of a weekend as we had, I mean we had a real good time. Just bonding, going out to dinner, eating with the guys and just getting to know them on another level seeing them in person, stuff like that.”

Bennett, like several other prospects on campus, was hosted on the visit by wide receiver Juice Wells, who also hosted targets Daniel Hill and Jonathan Paylor.

“It was a team effort, I mean the whole team came out and the whole team wanted to have a good time with us,” Bennett said. “Because they know if we all come here, we’re all gonna be teammates at the end of the year so it was good, it was good.”

Bennett, who was joined on the visit by his family, also enjoyed continuing to spend time with South Carolina wide receivers coach Justin Stepp.

“Oh man I feel like he’s my uncle, father away from home, you know, so that’s just that’s how I view him,” Bennett said. “He’s definitely growing into that figure for me and I feel like a son to him and that’s just our relationship.”

Bennett and Stepp also discussed how he would be used when he arrives in Columbia.

“I’m a plug-and-play player,” Bennett said. “They can put me wherever and I’m gonna play ball and they know I can run routes. I can run whatever route so I could play inside and outside, not limited to playing one position or the other, so that’s really what their message to me is: I’m a plug-and-play.”
