We didn’t have to wait until Monday to see fireworks in South Carolina.

Just days after narrowing his list down to four schools, four-star running back Dontavius Braswell flipped the script and chose a school that he didn’t even mention in his final four. That school was the University of South Carolina.

On Wednesday, Braswell took to Twitter to share that his final four schools were Alabama, Boston College, Nebraska, and Oregon. He went onto share that he would make his decision on Saturday July 2.

But on Friday, the On3 recruiting prediction machine may have appeared to look a little odd. Despite not even being in his final four, South Carolina still had the second best odds to land the back from Georgia. Not too far behind Nebraska, who appeared to be the favorite.

On Friday afternoon, Gamecock Central’s Wes Mitchell learned that yesterday’s “Welcome Home” tweet from Shane Beamer was indeed for Braswell. He becomes the fourth four-star commitment in South Carolina’s 2023 class. On3 has Braswell ranked as the 12th top running back in the nation for his class and the 20th overall player from the state of Georgia.

The first word that comes to mind when watching Braswell’s tape is speed. Rushing for just shy of 1100 yards on 80 carries as a junior, he is a Georgia 2A state champion in track in the 100 and 200 meters.

The news comes just hours before Loomis Chaffee four-star quarterback Dante Reno announces his college decision. That announcement is set to be held today at 7 p.m. on the CBS Sports HQ streaming platform.
