The Vols are taking notice of 3-star Smith Snowden amid strong senior campaign
The addition of recruiter Aaron Amaama to Josh Heupel’s staff has brought in a flurry of recent offers from talented players all over the country. Three-star cornerback Smith Snowden is one as the Lehi, UT native earned his first SEC offer from the Volunteers this month.
“They told me to give them a call, so I did,” the prospect recalled of the offer. “They kind of ran through what they liked about me, what my strengths are and how I could help them. They extended me an offer and it was really awesome.”
Snowden stands in at 5-foot-9, weighing just under 160 pounds. He owns an 88.75 score from the On3 consensus rating and is considered the sixth-best prospect from the sate of Utah.
“They told me that they like to recruit press-man corners and that I have some of the best feet that they’ve seen,” the 2023 recruit told Volquest. “They like press-man corners and that’s how they see me. I know they like to play man.”
The new Tennessee target originally believed he would be committed by now, but just hasn’t felt like he’s ready to make the call. With the Vols now jumping in the mix, the SEC enters the race for the first time.
“It means a lot,” Snowden said of his first SEC offer. “I think some of the SEC schools who have been recruiting me have kind of looked past me because they think 5-foot-10 is too short to play in the SEC. It means a lot that Tennessee looked past that and gave me the opportunity.”
An official visit to Knoxville is now on the table as Snowden will continue building his relationship with Willie Martinez and the rest of the Tennessee coaching staff. The prospect has already logged official check-ins with Northwestern, Utah and Colorado.
BYU is also very much in play as his father – Will Snowden – played for the program and several of the coaches currently on staff. With the local ties strong with the Cougar family, an official visit may not be necessary for Snowden, as he’s seen the campus on several occasions. BYU was the second offer for the three-star back during his sophomore year.
For Tennessee, it’s a learning game for the prospect as he doesn’t know an awful lot about the Volunteer program as of now.
“I know the stadium is massive and that the head coach has some ties to Utah,” the prospect said of Heupel. “He went to Snow college and coached some at Utah State.”
There’s no timetable for a commitment of any kind at the moment, but the prospect does plan to sign in December. With Tennessee now in play, the Vols will need to get Snowden on campus this fall to see the program first-hand.
Thus far into his senior campaign, Snowden has collected five interceptions at cornerback. Skyridge just lost its first game of the season last week to Corner Canyon.
