In this episode, Justin and Joe discuss…
- Justin and Joe begin with what Rice could do to hinder the Horns on Saturday. Justin notes that Owls quarterback JT Daniels is well suited in the Rice offense heading into his third contest at DKR-Texas Memorial Stadium and can still throw the ball effectively. Joe mentions Mike Bloomgren‘s running style, but Daniels’ ability to threaten the field could be the Owls best chance at scoring.
- Justin and Joe next go into backup quarterback talk, with Arch Manning and Maalik Murphy in the mix. Who will be the first QB off the bench is something many Texas fans will be watching. What will the running backs look like on Saturday? Justin thinks we’ll see a heavy dose of CJ Baxter and Jonathon Brooks, and Joe compares them to a 1A and 1B situation.
- Justin and Joe jump to the offensive line and discuss DJ Campbell being named starter at right guard. The Arlington (Texas) Bowie product beat out starter Cole Huston for the spot, even though both are expected to play a lot of reps. Justin mentions how Hutson will also play center and left guard, but with the heat on Saturday, there’s a good chance we’ll see a lot of o-linemen.
- Justin and Joe ask which freshman will make an impact on Saturday. Justin mentions Anthony Hill, playing linebacker and EDGE, and also mentions Baxter at tailback. Joe thinks Malik Muhammad is the frosh to watch, especially if Texas gets up early in the contest.

- Justin and Joe catch up on 2024 recruiting with a pair of Pelican State prospects, notably Lafayette (La.) Acadiana defensive tackle, On3 Industry Ranking five-star Dominick McKinley and Marrero (La.) John Ehret cornerback, On3 four-star and Florida commit Wardell Mack. McKinley is announcing his decision on Friday, September 1st between Texas, Texas A&M, Oklahoma, Ohio State, and LSU. The Horns remain right in the thick of the recruitment with Bo Davis expected to attend his game on Friday night, a battle with Lafayette Christian Academy and UT commit Melvin Hills Jr. As for Mack, he’ll be in Austin on Saturday for the Texas-Rice contest. Texas continues to recruit Mack despite his UF pledge.
- Justin and Joe finish with Against the Spread. Texas is a 35.5-point favorite over Rice, and Justin and Joe both take the Longhorns covering on Saturday.
