On Lamont

I know a lot of folks are not happy about the news, I’ve actually known this for a few months. Here’s where I feel on the situation: until the university takes mens bball serious, we will continue down this road. You need someone who wants to be here and wants to win and you need the right resources. We were dead last (been verified) in NIL for mens bball last year, so if we don’t give the proper resources to win, we won’t win. You can bring in whoever, but if we don’t give the proper resources, we won’t win at all and be in the same cycle continuously. Also, PM is over a program we view as more of a priority than bball and he was given more resources (top 10 in the SEC, top 15 in the country) budget to field a team, if he fails, he will be gone and we will look to revive a blue blood program in baseball, once that’s sorted out, basketball is next, it’s a process and the University along with JD know this, give it time and let it all play out

Agree and that’s what I’ve been saying. We don’t have the pieces in place for success in men’s basketball. We could fire Paris but it wouldn’t improve anything until we fix the other issues.

It's embarrassing to field a "revenue" sport and not take it seriously because we might need to fix baseball this summer. I doubt USC is going to slash ticket prices for MBB this fall despite the fact the administration isn't even trying to win.

It’s a horrible look and completely apathetic! You are condoning losing. I agree we aren’t serious about basketball. You need to bring in a person who is, pay them accordingly, and fund them accordingly. We don’t have one player that could start for another sec team. Maybe MJ, I guess for a few. We get scraps. You bring him back which we are. We will be picked last again! How has he earned another season? The team hasn’t improved so you can’t’ say it’s coaching regardless of talent. Is it the buyout of him? Donati off to a bad start.

I kind of feel that Donati believes he fixed football with the new hires and NIL; he’s gonna give more NIL to Paris in a prove it or lose it deal next season and Maineri is gonna get the axe. 2026:Maineri, 2027: Paris, and 2028: Beamer if it’s not better.

We'll be picked last again even with a new coach

Im not all that disappointed. Would I have liked to see a change? Probably! But we were last in NIL. That says something, no? it's like eating a good steak. If you buy a cheap steak when everyone else at the party bought Filets.. your steak is gonna suck!

It’s not all about money. Kentucky put $20 mil into their team and they are 9th in the SEC. Lamont took all the NIL we gave him and spent it poorly. If he was a financial advisor, he basically put all our money in a POS stock like AMC hoping for a miracle and lost it all. Now we are left holding the bag. You’d have to be an absolute sucker to give someone like that more money.

If we give the next coach the lowest amount of NIL in the league what would our expectations be? We need to be realistic about what our goals are and what we’re willing to do to reach them. Firing someone just to win a few more games and still miss the tournament doesn’t sound like a good strategy to me.

If I was PM, I would start examining retirement locations. He has to know that keeping Lamont means he is likely getting fired.

We were last in NIL. You can't seriously say it doesn't matter because UK spent $20 million. UK apparently either over spent or underachieved. Both situations can be true at the same time

I agree but we have to be realistic. I've asked a few times before and haven't gotten an answer. Which program do you pull money away from to fund MBB?

If someone gives you $500 to buy clothes you're going to Walmart. Someone gives you $5000 your wardrobe is going to look a lot better

Throwing more NIL money at the problem and still missing the tournament also doesn't sound like a good strategy.

People have made their own assumptions about our NIL for basketball and then treat those assumptions like their fact. Which is common on here with all situations. Still it’s interesting to read.

I agree. But if I’m putting an extra $10 million into a sport I’m using it on players over the coach every time.

Or perhaps winning/losing just doesn't matter and his job is safe.

That's a waste of money and a short term solution, if a solution at all. Hire a good coach and you won't have to play an extra $10 million every offseason. Because what happens this time next year when we've missed the tournament again (which will happen)?

Give me 500 and I'm going to TJMAX and I'll look like I spent 5000...well maybe 1000.

I never said money doesn’t matter. But it very obviously isn’t a magic pill to fix everything the way some people think it is.

So which is it? There are posters here saying Paris was given the money.
