JD's CFP Rankings After Week 6

With Week 7 of college football creeping up on us, FanDuel has released the early point spreads for some of the biggest matchups. The action begins early this week on a Tuesday as some Group of 5 teams kick off the action, and runs all the way until Saturday.

Week 6 provided plenty of entertainment, including a Red River Rivalry matchup between Oklahoma and Texas that came down to the wire. Sooners quarterback Dillon Gabriel threw a game-winning touchdown with 15 seconds remaining to secure a 34-30 win. The Sooners rose to No. 5 in the AP poll as a result and now find themselves squarely among the College Football Playoff contenders.

We can only hope Week 7 of college football is just as exciting with matchups such as Oregon-Washington and USC-Notre Dame on the schedule. You can view the point spreads for every game below.

Syracuse at No. 4 Florida State (-17.5)

Week 7 college football

Details: Noon ET on Saturday, Oct. 14 on ABC
After starting out the season 4-0, Syracuse has dropped its past two games and it’ll likely be three after Saturday. The Seminoles enter the contest on a tear having started the year 5-0 and show no signs of slowing down.

The matchup to watch out for here will be the FSU defensive front against the Orange’s rushing attack. Syracuse running back LeQuint Allen has proved a reliable threat with 401 yards and seven touchdowns, while quarterback Garrett Shrader has 368 yards and six scores on the ground.

Arkansas at No. 11 Alabama (-20.5)

Week 7 college football

Details: Noon ET on Saturday, Oct. 14 on ESPN
Alabama looks to have found its rhythm after an early loss to Texas, and the Crimson Tide enter this matchup on a three-game winning streak. Last week’s 26-20 road victory against Texas A&M puts them in first place in the SEC West, and a Playoff berth is still very much on the table if they can reach the conference title game.

Jalen Milroe had his best performance of the season against the Aggies to throw for 321 yards, three touchdowns and one interception. He should have a good chance to follow up on that against a Razorbacks team that finds itself in the midst of a four-game losing streak.

No. 8 Oregon at No. 7 Washington (-3)

Details: 3:30 p.m. ET on Saturday, Oct. 14 on ABC
This is easily the best game of the week, as evidenced by the fact that College GameDay will be in Seattle on Saturday. Oregon and Washington both enter the matchup undefeated, and this Week 7 meeting could have massive implications on both schools’ chances of making the College Football Playoff.

The Ducks have been dominant on both sides of the ball, ranking top 10 in the country in both scoring offense and defense. However, they’ll face a tough task on the road against best passing attack in the country. Michael Penix Jr. has the Huskies averaging 446.4 air yards per game, which is exactly 81 yards more than the No. 2 team.

Texas A&M at No. 19 Tennessee (-3)

Week 7 college football
Randy Sartin-USA TODAY Sports

Details: 3:30 p.m. ET on Saturday, Oct. 14
The Aggies suffered their first SEC loss this past week to Alabama and will hope to avoid sliding further down the standings. That’ll be easier said than done on the road against a Vols team that has had more than a week to prepare thanks to their bye.

The matchup up front is an interesting one, as Tennessee leads the conference in rushing yards per game, while A&M is the SEC’s No. 1 rushing defense. If the Aggies can contain the three-headed backfield of Jaylen Wright, Jabari Small and Dylan Sampson and force the Vols to throw more, they should be in good shape.

Iowa at Wisconsin (-9.5)

Week 7 college football
Jeffrey Becker-USA TODAY Sports

Details: 4 p.m. ET on Saturday, Oct. 14
This game will be a pivotal one in the Big Ten West, where Wisconsin currently sits atop the standings but Iowa is right behind it. The Hawkeyes need to avoid a loss here that would have them playing catch up the rest of the season to reach the conference title game.

To do so, they’ll need their defense to make plays in order to make up for an offense that ranks 132nd out of 133 FBS teams in yards per game. Wisconsin is 2-0 in Big Ten play and will aim to continue getting things done on the ground with the running back duo of Braelon Allen and Chez Mellusi.

Auburn at No. 22 LSU (-12.5)

Jake Crandall / USA TODAY NETWORK

Details: 7 p.m. ET on Saturday, Oct. 14 on ESPN
LSU managed to bounce back from a Week 5 loss to earn a 49-39 road win against Missouri on Saturday. Meanwhile, Auburn is still in search of its first SEC win and is coming off of a bye this past week after giving No. 1 Georgia a scare the week prior.

Auburn failed to reach the 100-yard mark in passing yards in both of its conference games so far, but did manage 219 yards on the ground against the Bulldogs. If its passing attack continues to struggle, it’s hard to imagine this not being another loss.

No. 10 USC at No. 19 Notre Dame (-2.5)

Gary A. Vasquez-USA TODAY Sports

Details: 7:30 p.m. ET on Saturday, Oct. 14 on NBC
Notre Dame’s College Football Playoff hopes are all but gone after the Fighting Irish suffered their second loss of the season on Saturday to Louisville. USC, on the other hand, continues to slip in the polls and needed three overtimes to overcome unranked Arizona.

Fighting Irish quarterback Sam Hartman will aim to bounce back from an abysmal performance in which he committed five turnovers (three INTs, two fumbles). He should have opportunity to do so against a Trojans defense that has surrendered an average of 36.7 points over the past three games. USC will hope the play of Caleb Williams can continue to keep it undefeated and in the CFP discussion.

No. 25 Miami at No. 12 North Carolina (-3.5)

Bob Donnan-USA TODAY Sports

Details: 7:30 p.m. ET on Saturday, Oct. 14 on ABC
This matchup was almost a battle of unbeatens until Miami threw away its game on Saturday. The Hurricanes simply needed to kneel to secure a win against Georgia Tech, but instead opted to run the ball. They fumbled, allowing the Yellow Jackets to throw a game-winning touchdown and escape 23-20.

Nonetheless, this game still should be an interesting one as it pits the ACC’s top two offenses against each other. The quarterback battle between Drake May and Tyler Van Dyke, who rank among the top passers in the conference, will bring plenty of fireworks.

Missouri at No. 24 Kentucky (-2.5)

Dale Zanine-USA TODAY Sports

Details: 7:30 p.m. ET on SEC Network
Kentucky and Missouri both suffered their first loss of the season this past week to Georgia and LSU, respectively, but only once can bounce back. The Wildcats will at least have the advantage of being the home team, giving them the slight nod here in Vegas’ estimation.

UK was sufficiently steamrolled in a 51-13 loss to the No. 1 Bulldogs but will hope to return to form as one of the best rushing defenses in the SEC. Missouri, however, leans on quarterback Brady Cook and dangerous receiving threat Luther Burden, who leads the conference with 54 catches for 793 yards and five touchdown.

No. 18 UCLA at No. 15 Oregon State (-5.5)

Gary A. Vasquez-USA TODAY Sports

Details: 8 p.m. ET on Saturday, Oct. 14 on FOX
Coming off of its first loss of the season, UCLA earned a top 25 victory this past weekend to beat Washington State by a score of 25-17. Bruins running back Carson Steele handled 30 carries to finish with 140 yards rushing, but it was receiver Keegan Jones who had two touchdowns on the ground despite only three carries.

The Bruins defense was also big in that contest to force four turnovers and record three sacks. Oregon State enters this matchup on a two-game win streak and its only loss this season is to the team UCLA just beat. The Beavers rank third in the Pac-12 in rushing yards per game, but run into a tough Bruins front.
