Daniel Jackson captures Dick Howser Trophy

OMAHA, Neb. – Daniel Jackson’s amazing 2026 season earned recognition Friday in a most prestigious way.
The Georgia catcher is the winner of the 38th annual Dick Howser Trophy. The award goes to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers’ Association Player of the Year.
He captured the award over UCLA junior shortstop Roch Cholowsky, Louisville sophomore first baseman Tague Davis, UC Santa Barbara junior starting pitcher Jackson Flora, and Arizona State sophomore outfielder Landon Hairston.
“Over the last day, I’ve gotten to meet a lot of great people. You know, the people up here on the stand along with a lot of great people, and me at dinner last night,” Jackson told the crowd at his press conference. “I really appreciate the support and knowing the criteria that goes into this award … hearing about Dick Hauser and his history. It means a lot to be granted this award. I’m very grateful for it.”
Jackson became emotional when talking about his family.
“But you know, I wouldn’t be able to do it by myself. You know, my father (Dan), who has been at every baseball game and has made a lot of sacrifices for me to be able to do what I do. My stepmom, Brandi … I don’t do this (tearing up) … who has filled a big hole in my life. Thanks,” he said. “My sister, (Alexandra), who is beautiful and a lot cooler than I am. And then, you know, a bunch of family that has also supported me.”
Jackson offered his coaches and teammates a special shoutout as well.
“To be a part of this team at Georgia has been incredible. The people, the teammates. Kolby Branch helped me tie my tie this morning,” Jackson said. “That’s kind of what we’re all about. One of the happiest moments of my life was winning the Super Regional game and Justin Byrd jumping into my arms.”
The SEC Player of the Year after winning the league’s triple crown, Jackson enters Saturday’s game against Texas in the College World Series batting .391 with 31 home runs and 86 RBI. He also has 26 stolen bases in 28 attempts. Jackson is attempting to join former Florida State great JD Drew as the only Division I player to go 30-30.
Jackson is the second Bulldog to win the award, following Charlie Condon in 2024.
Others who have won the award include a virtual Who’s Who of former and current Major League stars. They include Paul Skenes, Todd Helton, and Buster Posey, among many more.
