Two Aggies win individual honors from SEC

Texas A&M defensive end Cashius Howell and offensive linemen Trey Zuhn have been recognized by the Southeastern Conference with two of the SEC’s top individual awards.

Howell made the most of his first season as a full-time defensive end in 2025, leading the SEC in sacks with 11.5 while racking up a total of 14 tackles for loss. That was enough for him to win the SEC’s Defensive Player of the Year Award, which was announced Wednesday.

After splitting time with Nic Scourton and Shemar Stewart last year, Howell came into his own in 2025. He had three sacks in two different games, including three in three snaps against Utah State. In conference play, Howell had 8.5 sacks in eight conference games, taking opponents down in every game save two. He had multiple sacks against Mississippi State and LSU and was a coaches first team All-SEC selection Tuesday.

Zuhn and Alabama tackle Kadyn Proctor were named co-recipients of the Jacobs Blocking Trophy, given to the conference’s best offensive lineman. Zuhn, a two-year captain, has given up one sack in 382 dropbacks this season while playing center as well as left tackle. He was the only Power Four player to play more than 500 snaps at tackle and more than 100 snaps at guard. His current ProFootballFocus pass blocking score of 96.9 would be highest in the history of the site if holds through the College Football playoff.

Zuhn, who was also a first team All-SEC selection, is the third Aggie to win the Jacobs Blocking Trophy, joining Luke Joeckel in 2012 and Jake Matthews in 2013.
