Aggies remain third in Coaches, AP Polls
Texas A&M remains third in both the AP and Coaches Polls, but they made up noticeable ground on second-ranked Indiana this week.
The Aggies trailed Indiana by 68 points in last week’s Coaches Poll; this week, A&M only trails by 27 points. Texas A&M is the only team to receive first place votes (four) besides No. 1 Ohio State.
In the AP Poll, the Aggies also received four first place votes, but Indiana received six. Still, the Aggies picked up some ground on the Hoosiers, cutting their lead for second place in the poll from 46 points to 31.
Hoops gets hammered by Oklahoma State
Texas A&M’s scoring prowess did not make the trip to Stillwater, Okla. Sunday as the Aggies were bashed by the Oklahoma State Cowboys 87-63. A&M led 3-0 early on after a 3-pointer by Pop Isaacs, but never led again. They were outscored 43-29 in the first half and by 10 points in the second half.
The Aggies shot 26% from 3-point range and 32% overall while turning the ball over 15 times. Oklahoma State translated those 15 turnovers into 27 points. The Cowboys also dominated in the paint, outscoring A&M 44-24.
Guard Marcus Hill was the Aggie to score in double digits with 14 points. Zach Clemence and Ruben Dominguez added 9 points apiece.
Volleyball keeps rolling with sweep of Auburn
The No. 6 Texas A&M volleyball team already has the highest ranking in program history, but they’re not done yet. The Aggies posted a 3-0 (25-17, 25-22, 25-21) win at Auburn Friday night for their eighth consecutive win and their 12th sweep of the season.
The Aggies (20-3, 12-1 SEC) had three players with double-digit kills, led by Emily Hellmuth’s 15. Maddie Waak added 44 assists, while Ifenna Cos-Okpalla had 4 blocks, enough for her to become the fourth player in program history to have 500 career blocks.
Aggies in the NFL
Jacksonville Jaguars safety Antonio Johnson had 6 tackles, a sack and a pass defense Sunday as the Jaguars blew a 19-point fourth quarter lead to fall to the Houston Texans 36-29. Wideout Christian Kirk had 1 catch for 3 yards for the Texans.
Linebacker Von Miller had 1 tackle and a quarterback hit as the scuffling Washington Commanders were blown out by the Detroit Lions 44-22.
Indianapolis Colts cornerback Jaylon Jones had 2 tackles and a pass defensed in a 31-25 win over the Atlanta Falcons in Berlin.
Miami Dolphins running back Devon Achane had the best game of his professional career as the Dolphins cruised past the Buffalo Bills 30-13. Achane had 22 carries for 174 yards, including a 59-yard touchdown — one of two on the day. He also added 51 yards receiving on a team high 6 catches. Linebacker Tyrel Dodson had 9 tackles for the Dolphins.
Aggie legend Aaron Glenn picked up the second win as a head coach as the New York Jets beat the Cleveland Browns 27-20. Browns defensive end Myles Garrett tallied 3 tackles, 2 tackles for loss, a sack and a quarterback hit in the game.
Carolina Panthers defensive end Nic Scourton had his best day as a pro, with 4 tackles, a sack and 2 quarterback hits, but the Panthers lost 17-7 to the New Orleans Saints.
