Elko signs 6-year extension to stay in Aggieland

Mike Elko didn’t want to go anywhere else, and Texas A&M made sure that he wouldn’t.

Elko signed a new six-year contract that extends to 2031 shortly before the Aggies faced off against South Carolina Saturday morning. Terms of the deal have not been disclosed, but sources have indicated that his salary will be in the range of $11 million to $11.5 million per season. The deal also increases the salary pool for assistants and for NIL deals.

“I have deep respect for Coach Elko, and from the moment I first met him, it was clear he is the right leader for our football program,” Texas A&M Director of Athletics Trev Alberts said. “He has not only elevated our on-field performance over the last two seasons, but he has also begun building this program for a strong and sustainable future in the modern world of college athletics. We’ve made a programmatic decision to enhance our program in every way possible, and Coach Elko continues to embody discipline and values at the highest standard. His vision aligns perfectly with what we believe Texas A&M should represent, and I’m thrilled to continue this journey with him as he leads Aggie Football into an incredibly bright future.”

Elko has the Aggies off to a 10-0 start, including seven conference wins. This is the first 10-win season for A&M since 2012 and Texas A&M’s current rank of third in the College Football Playoff, AP and Coaches Polls is the highest in program history.

“Texas A&M has the potential to be one of the nation’s premier football brands and a consistent contender for championships. This commitment of resources allows us to continue elevating our program toward that goal. From day one, our mission has been to establish a standard of excellence that reflects the passion and pride of the 12th Man, and this support moves us even further along that path,” Elko said.

With Reed throwing the ball all over the place, two receivers set personal bests in receiving yards. Concepcion’s 158 yards was a career high, while Ashton Bethel-Roman set his career high with 139 yards on just four receptions.

Volleyball ends regular season with sweep of Georgia

The sixth-ranked Texas A&M volleyball team kept its hot streak going Sunday with a rout of Georgia, 3-0 (25-13, 25-17, 25-13). The win gave the Aggies (22-3, 14-1 SEC) their best record since 1984 and clinched the two seed for the SEC Tournament.

The Aggies set a program record for hitting efficiency in a three-set match at .525, with Logan Lednicky leading the way with 13 kills. Ifenna Cos-Okpalla led the team in hitting efficiency with a season high .750 while adding 10 more kills.

The Aggies have not lost a set since Nov. 2, when they beat Tennessee 3-1. A&M has won 10 in a row and has not lost a match since Oct. 8, when they fell to current No. 2 Kentucky 3-1.
