Pitt Redshirt Sophomore No Longer on Roster
Pitt football is set to see another player depart from the program this offseason.
Wide receiver/safety Jesse Anderson is no longer on the Pitt roster, according to a team spokesperson.
The redshirt sophomore becomes the third scholarship player and fourth overall from the 2025 team that will be looking for a new home when the transfer portal opens up on Jan. 2. He joins wide receiver Zion Fowler-El, offensive lineman Jackson Brown and walk-on long snapper Nico Crawford.
In three years at Pitt, Anderson had trouble carving out a major role on the roster. He redshirted in 2023 and then played in all 13 games a year later on special teams.
Anderson spent the first two seasons in the safety room before the coaching staff shifted him to wide receiver during training camp prior to the 2025 campaign. The move came as Anderson slid down the depth chart and was projected as the sixth safety, per head coach Pat Narduzzi.
The 6-foot, 185-pound Anderson played in 10 games this season. According to Pro Football Focus, Anderson logged just six snaps and two targets all season on offense and those numbers came solely against Duquesne.
Anderson came to Pitt out of Cardinal Gibbons High School in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. as a three-star prospect. During that time, he held additional offers from Maryland, Louisville, NC State, Colorado, Illinois, Wake Forest, Boston College and others.
