Tackle David Anchondo is Northwestern's first transfer commit
Northwestern landed its first player out of the portal on Thursday when tackle David Anchondo announced his transfer to the Wildcats. He has two years of eligibility remaining.
The Wildcats wrapped up this one quickly. Anchondo entered the portal on Nov. 28, visited NU on Dec. 1 and announced that he had picked up an offer on Dec. 2. He also visited Florida Atlantic.
Anchondo is an interesting story. Originally from Mexico, he played one year of high school football at Sterling Heights (Mich.) before playing the last three years at Division II Saginaw Valley State. He played in all 11 games this season for the Cardinals.
At 6-foot-8 and 310 pounds, Anchondo has prototypical tackle size and should fit right into the Wildcats’ offensive line room. Northwestern just signed four tackles last week who are 6-foot-7 or taller in their 2026 recruiting class.
Northwestern will lose both of its starting tackles after the GameAbove Bowl on Dec. 26, as three-year left tackle starter Caleb Tiernan and grad transfer right tackle Martes Lewis are out of eligibility. They also lose depth pieces Xavior Gray and Matt Keeler.
