Colbie Young injury update: Kirby Smart says 'it's not good' for Georgia wideout

ATHENS, Ga. — It sounds like Georgia will be without Colbie Young for awhile. The senior wideout suffered a lower leg injury on the third play of the Bulldogs’ 43-35 win over Ole Miss and did not return. Kirby Smart told reporters why after the game.
“It’s not good,” Smart said. “I should know, but it’s a facture down there, either tibia or fibula. It’s not good.”
Young is Georgia’s leading receiver in 2025, catching 23 passes for 336 yards and a touchdown. He suffered the injury after catching 36-yard pass from Gunner Stockton in the fourth quarter.
The 6-foot-4 220-poind wideout transferred to Georgia from Miami in January of 2024. He played in five games last season before running into some off-field trouble that caused him to miss the rest of the season. When Vanderbilt quarterback Diego Pavia, a former JUCO player like Young, was granted a temporary injunction in the offseason allowing him to keep playing, the NCAA issued a blanket waiver. That applied to Young.

It allowed the New York native to return to Georgia for the 2025 season. Young capitalized on a strong spring and preseason camp, earning the start in every UGA game this season. He has a catch in every game and at least four catches in four separate games. His lone touchdown came in the Bulldogs’ fourth game of the season, a 27-24 loss to Alabama.
With Young unable to continue, Georgia turned to Noah Thomas as the split-end position. Young did not register a catch despite multiple targets. Zachariah Branch, however, caught eight passes for 71 yards to lead all Georgia receivers. The Tight ends also hauled in nine passes for 85 yards and three scores. Lawson Luckie caught all three touchdowns, becoming the first player to bring in that many scoring tosses since Mohamed Massaquoi in 2008.
