4-star Georgia target Kam Mikell has big night

Statesboro (Ga.) four-star athlete Kam Mikell is one of the top uncommitted targets left on Georgia’s board.

He’ll come off the board on Thursday. Mikell will announce his college decision on Thanksgiving Day.

Georgia joins Colorado, Tennessee, Kentucky and South Carolina on Mikell’s table ahead of his decision.

Mikell, the No. 74 overall prospect in the 2024 On3 Rankings, has been to Athens on multiple occasions.

Mikell took an official visit to Georgia back in May. He returned a few weeks ago to watch Georgia defeat Missouri. The occasions were different. The Bulldogs have been invested in Mikell as a defensive back for much of his recruitment.

In recent weeks, they turned their attention to Mikell as a wide receiver. On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine has long had Georgia out front. That has slipped a bit in recent days. RPM gives Georgia a 68.8 percent chance of landing Mikell at the moment.

Colorado has surged a bit in recent days. The Buffaloes now sit second with a 14.4 percent chance of landing the four-star. Mikell’s cousin and high school teammate, Amontrae Bradford, is committed to Colorado.

Finalists: Colorado, Georgia, Tennessee, Kentucky and South Carolina.

What has he said about Georgia?

Mikell has been building a relationship Georgia’s staff since his sophomore year of high school. There is a deep connection.

There are a few things that stand out to Mikell with Georgia’s staff. Their faith is one that has stood the test of time.

“It’s an everyday thing,” Mikell said of his contact with Georgia back on Nov. 15. “Coach Fran (Brown) and coach (Will) Muschamp both send me quotes like every day. It’s an everyday thing with those guys. They tell me good luck with my games and all that. There is a lot of good conversation…It’s really more of the bible verses, it’s not really anything about the games, it’s about keeping my head straight,” Mikell said. “That’s very unique. Not everybody does that. I know that’s different and I feel like more of a priority when that happens.”

Mikell watched Georgia’s offense closely back on Nov. 4. The Bulldogs’ spread the ball around and Mikell took note of that.

“That was very good to see,” Mikell said after the visit. “Receivers want the ball instead of blocking all the time.”

The big picture for Georgia

Mikell is a major need in Georgia’s class of 2024. Georgia has two wide receivers committed in the class. Four-star NiTareon Tuggle and three-star Sacovie White are both still locked in on Georgia.

Georgia’s push Mikell as an offensive player coincided with four-star Ny Carr’s decommitment and eventual commitment to Miami.

Mikell is one of the last uncommitted options for Georgia. Should he land elsewhere, Georgia could look into flipping other prospects and potentially become aggressive in the transfer portal.
