One of the best in the Peach State will be staying home, as four-star athlete Demello Jones of Swainsboro High in Swainsboro, Georgia has announced his commitment to the Georgia Bulldogs on Friday per On3’s Chad Simmons.

“I was fortunate enough to be recruited by the best universities and the best staffs in the country and for that I’m grateful,” Jones told Simmons of his commitment. “But when talking to Coach Fran Brown and the staff at the University of Georgia, I didn’t feel like I was being recruited. I felt like I was already in his cornerbacks room and already a member of the team, so it felt like home.”

That feeling has been consistent for Jones for some time.

“With me being from Georgia, it feels like a family with them showing love the way that they are,” Jones said of the Bulldogs in February. “I know that they truly do want me at the school.”

Even when the Dawgs first offered, it was clear that they’d be a major consideration.

“Georgia is a big factor in my recruitment, and them being in-state is a boost because most of my family is from Georgia,” Jones said at the time. “That’d be an easy drive for them to come up and support, and also, it’d be easy for me to visit back home.”

Ranked as the nation’s No. 156 overall prospect per the 2024 On3 Industry Ranking, Jones, who is listed as an athlete in the rankings, becomes the fourth defensive back committed to Georgia for the cycle.

He joins fellow four-stars Peyton Woodyard, Jaylen Heyward, and the nation’s No. 1 cornerback Ellis Robinson at the position.

Demello Jones projects as a cornerback for the Bulldogs.

“They like how athletic I am on both sides of the ball,” Jones said in February. “My ball skills can transfer over to the defensive side of the ball.”

Georgia currently at No. 1

The Bulldogs currently hold ten commitments for the Class of 2024, including from the aforementioned Woodyard, Heyward, and Robinson.

They are joined by No. 1 ranked tight end Landen Thomas, No. 4 ranked linebacker Demarcus Riddick, No. 11 ranked wideout Ny Carr, No. 6 ranked running back Dwight Phillips, No. 10 ranked quarterback Ryan Puglisi, and three-star wideout Sacovie White.

Look for Georgia to work to expand their lead this weekend, as the Dawgs will be playing host to some of the top prospects in both 2024 and 2025.
