It’s officially draft week in the NFL. Come Thursday, players from all across the College Football landscape will start to find their new homes. Last year that happened in record breaking fashion for the Georgia Bulldogs with 15 players picked. It won’t be quite that many this year, but Kirby Smart’s crew still should be well represented in the selections taking place over the course of three days in Kansas City.

With double-digit Georgia players expected to be picked, DawgsHQ prepares you by taking a look back on their respective collegiate careers with our Georgia Draft Profile series. We now turn our attention to one of the draft’s top offensive linemen, Broderick Jones.

On3 Industry Ranking (2020): No. 9 overall, No. 1 offensive tackle, No. 3 in state of Georgia

Broderick Jones is considered one of the top offensive linemen in the draft, and if you turn on the tape, it’s easy to see why. Jones is athletic. He does a good job of staying in front of defenders that are trying to get to the quarterback in pass protection while also getting downhill well in the run game.

A starter of just 19 games however, he’s far from the most polished product. Jones saw an uptick in his playing time during his second season on campus in Athens, going from playing in mop-up duty in 2020 to seeing the field in every contest in 2021. That still primarily came as a backup offensive lineman and a part of the field goal protection team, but Jones was asked to play important snaps in place of Jamaree Salyer at times like when he went down with an injury in the first half against Auburn or for the final four regular season games when Salyer was once again sidelined. He was named to the Coaches’ Freshman All-SEC Team for his efforts.

Jones also stepped in during the first half of the National Championship Game against Alabama, not for Salyer because he was hurt but to allow Salyer to bump inside to guard and give Georgia a boost offensively. Clearly that decision paid off with the Bulldogs dominating down the stretch, especially the fourth quarter, outscoring the Crimson Tide 27-9 in the second half.

With Salyer off to the NFL this time last year, the left tackle job was Jones’ in 2022, and he manned the position in a way that made people forget at times that he was a new starter. Jones started all 15 games for Georgia and earned a selection on the Associated Press All-SEC First-Team as he did not allow a sack and was penalized twice all season. Jones is expected to hear his name called in the first round on Thursday night, likely the range of the teens with potential landing spots being the Tennessee Titans, New York Jets, Pittsburgh Steelers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers – among others.
