2022 New Iberia (La.) Westgate tight end Danny Lewis announced on National Signing Day that he was headed to Alabama over LSU and Florida, he said at his high school.

Lewis ranks as the nation’s No. 32 tight end and the No. 29 prospect in Louisiana this cycle, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Lewis’ official visit to Alabama was key.

“Alabama official visit was great,” Lewis told On3Sports last month. “You get to see everything like why they succeed more than everybody. Their staff and the training and everything they do is just on another level. The thing that I like about their plan is most of the people, you’re getting recruited by Alabama, you know them to be successful in the future like make it up to the next level.”

“Me and coach Golding are pretty close. He’s pretty cool. I don’t know how to explain it, but we just click. Coach Saban, he’s a great man. He gave me all the statistics about everyone that went to Alabama and how they were so successful in the league and everything. Just read to me how the program is great.”

LSU holding out for 5-star Harold Perkins

LSU is in contention for some of the nation’s best prospects. All of them have or are announcing on National Signing Day as well.

Missouri City (Tex.) Hightower wide receiver Caleb Douglas, five-star Ponchatoula (La.) safety Jacoby Mathews and five-star Cy Park (Tex.) linebacker Harold Perkins are the remaining targets left to announce. Douglas is pegged to Florida, Mathews seems bound for Texas A&M and Perkins is leaning to LSU, according to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine. Lake Charles College Prep (La.) running back TreVonte’ Citizen committed to Miami earlier on Wednesday.

Waxahachie (Tex.) defensive back Jaelyn Davis-Robinson committed to the Tigers to start things off on Wednesday. The Lone Star State prospect picked LSU over UNLV, Oregon and others.
