Portal Alert: Miami Hurricanes add Jason Taylor's son, safety Isaiah Taylor, to 2024 roster
There will be two Taylors on the Miami Hurricanes sidelines this coming season.
One, of course, is Hall of Fame DL Jason Taylor, who is coaching the Miami Hurricanes in the trenches. And a new addition is Taylor’s son, Isaiah Taylor, who is transferring in from Arizona.
Isaiah plays a much-needed position at Miami, considering starters Kam Kinchens and James Williams are gone. But he also hasn’t gotten much action to this point with the Wildcats.
The former 3-star recruit out of Ft. Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas High School in the Class of 2021 wasn’t able to get much playing time at Arizona.
He played in four games as a freshman on special teams, with one tackle, then this past season was a backup. In 11 games he ended with 40 tackles (20 solo) and also had a TFL and two pass breakups along with an interception against Arizona State.
He’ll be a preferred walkon and will try to be in the mix to start at safety at Miami along with returners Markeith Williams, Jaden Harris, Brian Balom, Kaleb Spencer and Vanderbilt transfer arrival Savion Riley (plus the true freshmen arrivals).
As for Taylor’s Pro Football Focus grades?
In 146 reps this past season he graded out at a not-great 56.5 percent, including a 66.5 run defense grade, 63.6 tackle grade and 54.2 cover grade (allowed five catches on seven targets for 65 yards and a TD).
Miami has its work cut out replacing the lost production of Kinchens and Williams, who combined for 132 tackles and six interceptions last year. Taylor and the rest of the team’s safeties will compete this spring and into the fall in what appears to be a wide open battle with perhaps Markeith Williams (off his eight tackles in the bowl game) and Riley (who looked the part at Vanderbilt) having a leg up heading into it.
