Recruitment

A legacy recruit, Goodwin was considered a Michigan lean for the majority of the recruiting cycle. He made things official and committed to the Wolverines in May. Goodwin picked U-M over offers from Missouri, NC State, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia Tech and others. Michigan wide receivers coach Ron Bellamy served as his primary recruiter.

He Said It

“It feels like home. It’s a place I’m comfortable in, a place I feel I can gel well into that receiver room and be able to showcase my talent. The third reason is I got my quarterback. I’ve been tight with Jadyn (Davis) since middle school and then through high school and now college. So, I’ll be looking forward to that.”

They Said It

“Channing is a model guy. He’s the guy you want. He’s incredibly dependable. He’s going to play hurt. He’s tough, strong, fast and smart. There are no chinks in the armor with Channing. We situationally asked him to play safety for us, and he ended up being a starter and playing both ways the whole game.” — Providence Day head coach Chad Grier

Scouting Report

“I think Channing Goodwin is a reliable possession receiver. He’s a guy who obviously has a rapport with Jadyn Davis, having played a ton of football with him at the high school level. He has strong hands. He’s tough. He’s effective working short and intermediate areas of the field. Ideally, he’s best suited for playing in the slot, but he can maybe play on the outside as well.” — On3 Rankings Director Charles Power

“What he does bring to the table is a skillset to move the chains. Goodwin is a slot receiver all the way. He does line up occasionally on the outside, but he does most of his work inside. He is very good at identifying the soft spot in zones and uses his craftiness to get open. He runs crisp routes and rarely drops the ball. Providence Day asks him to run a wide array of routes — slants, sticks, comebacks, screens, etc. and uses pre-snap motion to threaten the defense.” — Former P5 staffer Seth Guttman
