Podcast: The latest on On300 Michigan LB flip target and Miami commit Elijah Melendez

A recap of last weekend’s slew of visiting Michigan recruits were discussed on The Wolverine live Tuesday recruiting show with analysts EJ Holland and Zach Libby, as well an intriguing target expected to be in Ann Arbor later this week – On300 Kissimmee (Fla.) Osceola linebacker and Miami commit Elijah Melendez.

Melendez Recruitment

Melendez, who verbally committed to Miami this past December, is slated to return to Michigan for a multi-day visit starting on Saturday. This’ll will be his second appearance on campus after showing up for the win over Ohio State over the fall.

Here’s what Holland had to say about this recruitment and where Michigan stands.

“When Melendez visited for that game against Ohio State, I thought Michigan had a real chance at one point,” Holland said. “Melendez was actually an Ohio State lean, so he was very willing to leave his home state of Florida. I still think that’s the case a little bit. Like, there’s something in the back of his mind that’s like, ‘Hey, I kind of want to get out here.’ (Michigan is) further away from home. It’s Big Ten football, which fits his skill set. He would be a great fit at either the MIKE or the WILL. He has great sideline-to-sideline speed. He’s extremely physical. He fits the mold of a Michigan linebacker.”

At 6-foot-1, 210 pounds, Melendez is ranked as the No. 109 overall prospect and No. 12 linebacker in the country, according to On3. He’s also the No. 12 recruit in the state of Florida.

Michigan currently yields three verbal commits in the 2025 recruiting class – On300 Ft. Myers (Fla.) Bishop Verot quarterback Carter Smith, On300 Howell (Mich.) High defensive lineman Bobby Kanka, and three-star Alcoa (Tenn.) High tight end Eli Owens.
