Michigan has landed a commitment from one of the most intriguing prospects on the board this cycle in 2023 Paris (France) Pionniers de Touraine EDGE Aymeric Koumba.

Michigan produced two high-level NFL Draft picks at the EDGE position in Aidan Hutchinson and David Ojabo, which played a huge role in Koumba’s decision.

“I knew about Michigan because of the pass rushers like Hutchinson and Ojabo,” he said. “I’m a big fan of Ojabo, I want to play like him. A guy like him motivates me. To have the chance to be at the same place as him is really good.”

Michigan defensive line coach Mike Elston offered Koumba after watching him in a Mercer University mega camp earlier this summer. And the two connected right away.

“I want to be with coaches who can push me and make me the best,” Koumba said. “Coach Elston is really like that I feel good with him.”

Koumba chose Michigan over other early offers, Vanderbilt, Colorado, and Connecticut. He was also in communication with Penn State, Ole Miss, West Virginia, Purdue, and others.

After meeting and getting offered by Elston at Mercer, Koumba then made his way to TCU for a camp, where he was able to meet with Elston again. This allowed the two to form a strong connection, which quickly proved valuable.

Just days later, Koumba made a trip to Michigan along with his trainer, Brandon Collier, who works with and mentors dozens of international prospects. Koumba spent more time with Elston and got a tour of the facilities.

Koumba originally planned on waiting to make a decision in the fall. But, Michigan turned up the heat on him in recent weeks and convinced him to make the decision now.

The Class

Koumba is the 12th commitment in the 2023 class for Michigan. He is also the third EDGE prospect in the class, joining On300 prospect Enow Etta and four-star recruit Collins Acheampong.

As an international prospect just hitting the scene this summer, Koumba just received a three-star ranking. However, he has a great deal of untapped potential and impressive raw physical skills. In fact, Koumba was a big part of his team winning the French national championship, which took this place this month.
