The Wolverine's Ej Holland Breaks Down 5 Key Recruits Who Have Visited Michigan So Far This Spring

Michigan’s spring visits are in full swing, and on Saturday, a number of elite offensive line targets were on campus to watch camp practice.

The Wolverine examines where U-M stands with the visitors, according to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM), the industry’s first algorithm and machine learning-based product to predict where athletes will attend college.

Top 100 OT Douglas Utu, Las Vegas (Nev.) Bishop Gorman, 2025

Industry Ranking: No. 39 Overall, No. 7 Offensive Tackle, No. 1 in Nevada
RPM: USC (34.9%), Nebraska (16.0%), Michigan (13.7%), Ohio State (11.4%)
Past U-M Visits: N/A

Douglas Utu and his two offensive line teammates at powerhouse Bishop Gorman – Top 100 SJ Alofaituli and four-star Alai Kalaniuvalu, told The Wolverine over the fall that they were communicating with head coach Sherrone Moore daily, and they remain priority targets this offseason. The trio has planned to visit The Big House for the Ohio State game together, but Utu’s trip changed. Instead, he’ll take in practice and meet with Moore and offensive line coach Grant Newsome, who each stopped by Bishop Gorman during the January contact period. Michigan signed Utu’s former teammate in 2024 running back Micah Ka’apana, who’s been peer recruiting since he committed this past June.

Top 100 OL Michael Carroll, Doylestown (Pa.) Central Bucks East, 2025

On3 Ranking: No. 69 Overall, No. 3 Interior Offensive Lineman, No. 3 in Pennsylvania
RPM: Michigan (30.9%), Penn State (23.3%), Rutgers (10.1%), South Carolina (5.7%)
Past U-M Visits: 11/25/23, 10/22/23, 7/30/23

Michael Carroll‘s father played football at Penn State and his mother played basketball at Michigan State. Despite the legacy statuses at Michigan’s rival schools, the Wolverines are a main contention to land the Pennsylvania native, who’s developed a close relationship with Moore and Newsome. Carroll’s first game seen in Ann Arbor was in late November, and the rallying cry that U-M had when Zak Zinter got injured was inspiring to the junior. Carroll has also locked in an official visit with the reigning national champions on June 21.

On300 OT Jack Lange, Eureka (Mo.) High, 2025

Industry Ranking: No. 184 Overall, No. 15 Offensive Tackle, No. 2 in Missouri
RPM: Notre Dame (82.0%), Missouri (4.7%), Nebraska (3.5%), Michigan (2.1%)
Past U-M Visits: 11/25/23

Jack Lange is a heavy lean to Notre Dame, according to the RPM, but along with his return to Michigan this weekend, he’ll also return on June 14 for an official visit. The Wolverines landed in Lange’s Top 6 last month, which also featured the Fighting Irish, Missouri, Nebraska, Wisconsin, and Ole Miss. All the schools mentioned are expected to receive an official visit, with Lange coming off spring visits to each outside of the Badgers, who will host the junior on April 20. Moore offered Lange last fall and enjoyed his time at The Big House for the win over Ohio State. He also attends the same high school that produced Hassan Haskins.

On300 OL Hardy Watts, West Roxbury (Mass.) Dexter School, 2025

On3 Ranking: No. 242 Overall, No. 16 Interior Offensive Lineman, No. 2 in Massachusetts
RPM: Penn State (26.6%), Michigan (23.3%), Clemson (19.9%), Boston College (1.5%)
Past U-M Visits: N/A

Hardy Watts is among the newer names on Michigan’s offensive line list of targets this cycle. Newsome extended an offer in February, and the New England mauler has quickly risen up the board. Watts once compared the success U-M has had with developing offensive linemen to seeing cake in a window and praised the elevation of Moore to head coach. Having the head coach be a former offensive line coach resonates with Watts, and the feeling is mutual with his peers. Newsome has built consistent communication with Watts this offseason as the latter’s interest in the team continues to grow.

Top 100 OL Greg Patrick, Portage (Mich.) Northern, 2026

On3 Ranking: No. 82 Overall, No. 7 Interior Offensive Lineman, No. 1 in Michigan
RPM: Michigan State (35.1%), Notre Dame (20.6%), Michigan (13.4%), WMU (7.5%),
Past U-M Visits: 9/23/23, 6/21/23

Greg Patrick is a Michigan State legacy, with his father having played football for the Spartans back in the early 2000s. The new MSU coaching staff is pushing heavily, but so are Moore and Newsome. Michigan offered Patrick during his visit for the Rutgers game in September. Right before Moore was given the keys to the program, he appeared at Portage Northern during the contact period. Development on and off the field will be a priority factor in Patrick’s recruitment. With the Wolverines sending six offensive linemen to the NFL Combine, as well as winning two Joe Moore Awards in the last three seasons, those have Patrick’s attention.
