The Wolverine's Ej Holland Breaks Down 5 Key Recruits Who Have Visited Michigan So Far This Spring

The Wolverine’s EJ Holland breaks down five key recruits that have visited Michigan this spring (so far), including On300 Cleveland Heights running back Marquise Davis.

Davis Recruitment

Michigan extended an offer to Davis last year and hosted him for an unofficial visit for the game against Ohio State in November.

While area recruiter Steve Clinkscale and running backs coach Mike Hart are no longer on staff, Davis remains interested in U-M. In fact, Michigan received a big boost in the Davis recruitment when the Wolverines stole running backs coach Tony Alford away from rival Ohio State this offseason.

Alford is already pushing for Davis and brought him in for an unofficial visit earlier this week.

Here is what Holland had to say about Davis’ recruitment.

“I think Marquise Davis is a guy Michigan can land and pull out of enemy territory,” Holland said. “Ohio State has a 90 percent chance of landing him, according to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine. But much like (fellow On300 running back) Bo Jackson, Davis is a guy that had a really strong relationship with Tony Alford. That Alford relationship is now going a long way at Michigan. The visit on Tuesday went extremely well. He got to spend personal time with Alford and watch him work with the Michigan running backs. He got to spend time with new head coach Sherrone Moore. I think Michigan is building some true momentum in this recruitment.”

Davis is set to return to Michigan for an official visit on June 7.

Along with Michigan, Davis holds offers from Florida, Kentucky, Miami, Michigan State, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Penn State, Tennessee, USC and others.

At 5-foot-11, 200 pounds, Davis is ranked as the No. 7 running back and No. 102 overall prospect nationally, per On3. He is also ranked as the No. 5 overall recruit in the state of Ohio this cycle.

Ohio State currently has the lead on the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine with a 90.0 percent chance of landing him. Michigan is in second place with a 5.6 percent chance of landing him.

Michigan has three verbal commitments in its 2025 recruiting class in On300 Fort Myers (Fla.) Bishop Verot quarterback Carter Smith, On300 Howell (Mich.) High defensive lineman Bobby Kanka and three-star Alcoa (Tenn.) High tight end Eli Owens. The class is ranked No. 19 nationally, per the On3 Industry team recruiting rankings.
