Davis recruitment

Michigan made Davis its lone quarterback target throughout the 2024 recruiting cycle. While there were a couple of decision delays, Davis eventually committed to Michigan in the spring over offers from North Carolina, Penn State, Tennessee and others.

Davis marked the first high profile quarterback commit for Michigan since JJ McCarthy in the 2021 recruiting cycle. As a junior, Davis passed for 3,425 yards and 43 touchdowns en route to being named the Gatorade North Carolina Player of the Year.

Here is what On3 Director of Scouting, Charles Power, had to say about Davis earlier this year.

“I think the first thing that jumps out to me is his game administration,” Power said. “He’s a guy who knows where he’s going with the football. He’s polished. He’s received a lot of coaching. I don’t think Davis is going to outwardly struggle in a setting. He’s consistent. He has a live arm. Is it the best arm in the country? I wouldn’t say that, but his arm strength is good. In terms of playing in structure and doing what the offense asks, he’s very good there. I think the overall development level is strong.

“This is a guy that’s been working as a quarterback for a long time. He’s been well-known and well-established since middle school. The technical aspects of playing the position are not new to him. Physically, he has a pretty developed lower body, and I think that’s where he gets a lot of his power from. That’s what I like the most about him right now.”

At 6-foot, 195 pounds, Davis is ranked as the No. 7 quarterback and No. 90 overall prospect nationally, per the On3 Industry Ranking. He is also ranked as the No. 3 overall recruit in the state of North Carolina this cycle.
