Former Indiana transfer tight end Sam West commits to Mississippi State
One of Mississippi State’s top priorities in the spring transfer portal window was signing a tight end. On Thursday the Bulldogs made a move in that area with the commitment of former Indiana tight end Sam West.
West officially visited Mississippi State last weekend and also took official visits to Pittsburgh and Temple. Last season the 6-foot-4 and 246-pound West played in all 13 games at Indiana, including the CFP playoffs, and had one catch for 37 yards.
West played in two games in 2023 as a true freshman but ended up redshirting that season. He has three years of remaining eligibility.

In the Class of 2023, West was rated as the nation’s No. 25 tight end and the state’s No. 5 prospect by On3 rankings. He was the starting quarterback at Greensburg Community (Ind.) School in his last two seasons of high school.
Mississippi State now exits the spring with four tight ends on scholarship with West, Seydou Traore, Cam Ball and Emeke lloh. Then in June, 2025 signee Joeseph Skipworth will enroll at Mississippi State. West also becomes the third transfer commitment for the Bulldogs this spring, joining former Purdue offensive lineman Jaekwon Bouldin who committed on Tuesday and former Virginia offensive lineman Blake Steen, who also committed on Thursday.
