OU-Texas will be on national television once again.

The Red River Showdown on Oct. 7 at the Cotton Bowl will officially be broadcast on ABC, it was announced Tuesday. This will be the third straight year the game will be on ABC, having last appeared on FOX in 2020. The time for the game has yet to be determined. Though, the game has been an 11 a.m. kickoff every year since 2017 when it was at 2:30 p.m.

This year’s OU-Texas game will be the last in the Big 12 before both teams head to the SEC in 2024. When they move the game will be telecasted on ABC/ESPN exclusively, as the conference’s television contract with ESPN begins in 2024. There has also been speculation that the game will receive more 2:30 p.m. kickoffs, as that’s the prime-time slot for SEC games.

But for the Sooners, they aren’t worried about the SEC just yet. They’ll be looking for redemption against the Longhorns this season after getting stomped 49-0 in 2022. Both teams enter the 2023 season with high expectations. The Longhorns have one of the most talented rosters in college football, but that hasn’t helped them in the past. They are currently the odds-on favorites to win the Big 12.

And the Sooners look to bounce back in Brent Venables’ second year, adding several players in the transfer portal that they believe can be the difference in 2023. Oklahoma’s win over/under total is currently set at 9.5, per multiple sportsbooks.

As for the Red River Showdown, Texas is currently a 5.5-point favorite, according to FanDuel Sportsbook. Texas was also favored last year after the Sooners entered the game having already lost two games and were without quarterback Dillon Gabriel. OU will aim to flip the narrative this season.
