2023 Arlington Sam Houston tight end Lafayette Kaiuway has been on the Texas Longhorns’ radar for a while. After catching five touchdowns in his last two games Steve Sarkisian and Jeff Banks pulled the trigger on an offer.

Inside Texas caught up with the 6’5″ athlete to get his thoughts on the recent offer from the Horns.

“This offer feels surreal,” Lafayette Kaiuway told IT. “I’m so excited and happy to be in the position that I’m in.”

Kaiuway is fairly new to the tight end position, which Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian highlighted while giving him his offer yesterday.

“Coach Sark and Coach Banks told me how impressed they were with my playstyle,” said Kaiuway. “With how new I am to the position they loved that I can block really well in addition to my athleticism.”

After visiting for the Red River Shootout and researching the school Kaiuway and his family have high praise for the Longhorns and hope to visit Austin before the season ends.

“My family was so excited when I told them that I got offered by Texas,” Lafayette Kaiuway said. “We think very highly of Texas. The first thing that comes to mind is being a top-tier program in both athletics and academics. Hopefully, we’ll visit Austin very soon, I’ll keep you updated.”

Kaiuway joins a 2023 TE picture that includes On300 members Jaden Platt and Jaden Greathouse in addition to Isidore Newman TE Will Randle. As Inside Texas reported last week the feeling is that after not taking a TE in the 2022 cycle, Texas will load up with two takes in 2023.

It is still early in Kaiuway’s recruitment, but Texas led by Jeff Banks has built a very strong relationship over the past few months.
