The Texas Longhorns got the 2024 class started with a loud bang Friday.

Lexington (SC) prospect and On3 Industry Ranking 4-star guard Cam Scott committed to Texas over Alabama, Ole Miss, South Carolina and Auburn live on the On3 YouTube channel.

The No. 26 ranked prospect nationally in the 2024 cycle is huge win for Rodney Terry and staff, and jump starts the class. Scott made an official visit to Texas in November of 2022. The Longhorns remained the school most prevalent on Scott’s mind throughout the coaching change. They never lost the lead in the recruitment.

Alabama made the biggest run at Texas in the weeks leading up to Scott’s commitment.

The silky smooth scoring guard told Inside Texas at the USA Basketball minicamp on April 4 that the Texas style of play is a fit.

“Yes, honestly, (can see the fit)” Scott said. “They play kind of a four-out, one-in, and move the ball pretty well, and they play through everybody. Just being able to go in there and play to my strengths would be nice. Getting up and down the floor, attacking the hoop, and there are a bunch of things Texas likes to do that I do well.”

Scott averaged 19.2 points, 6.1 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 2.4 steals per game as a junior. He was named the South Carolina Gatorade Player of Year following the season.

The Palmetto State native took home Pangos All-American Camp Co-MVP in Las Vegas in June. He turned heads averaging 24.6 points per game. That included knocking down 57% of his three-point attempts during the multi-day camp that featured many of the country’s top prospects in 2024 and 2025.

Scott on the Texas Longhorns

Scott spoke On3’s Joe Tipton in late July about the Texas program.

“Coach (Rodney) Terry was one of the coaches I felt really comfortable with on my official visit. He was an honest coach, so I felt like we had that bond. Some of the coaching staff is still there, and some of the players are still there, so I feel like it is a lot of the same there.”

Scott has spoken highly of Rodney Terry and the Texas program since the official visit. That included in a conversation with On3’s Jamie Shaw in April.

“Coach RT (Rodney Terry), him being there when I got off the plane, greeting me with big open arms and a big smile. You know, he is one of those people who can change the environment of an entire room. His getting that job is a big step up for him and a big step up for the Texas community. Losing their coach and him coming in and still being able to take them on a run in the tournament, he made his mark on the community.”

Cam Scott’s On3 personal life profile

Cam Scott became a well-known name in the basketball world when he started playing varsity in the eighth grade at Lexington (South Carolina) High School. He averaged a team-high 15.6 points and six rebounds as an eighth grader. Then in ninth grade, he averaged team-high 16.9 points and 8.5 rebounds. He earned Class 5A all-state and all-region honors in 2020 and 2021. Scott also participated in the 2021 USA Men’s U16 National Team training camp. He averaged 16.3 points during the Chick Fil A Classic during his junior season. “I’ve become more the heart of the team, carrying the leadership role and being the energy for the team,” Scott told On3’s Jamie Shaw. “My vision has taken a big leap, seeing things before they happen on both ends of the floor. We’re looking for a state championship this season; my goal is always to win as much as possible. I’m watching a lot of Luka Doncic right now, the little things with him – how he gets to his spots, his footwork.”
