Texas Longhorns 2022 Big 12 schedule released
The Texas Longhorns and the Oklahoma Sooners have not yet announced when they will make their move to the Southeastern Conference. As a result, the Big 12 released its 2022 football schedule on Wednesday with both teams included.
Texas will not be playing on Thanksgiving or the day after in 2022. Instead, the Longhorns will host Big 12 rival Baylor on the Saturday after Thanksgiving.

The Longhorns already have three non-conference games on the 2022 schedule, all at home. Steve Sarkisian will begin his second year as head coach of the Longhorns with a matchup against the Sun Belt Conference’s Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks on Sept. 3.
The following week, the 18-time national champion Alabama Crimson Tide travel to Austin for the first time since 1922. The schools last met each other in the 2010 BCS National Championship Game, with Nick Saban’s team topping Texas 37-21.
Former Longhorn assistant Jeff Traylor then heads to Austin the following week with his UTSA Roadrunners.
Big 12 play begins with a road trip to Lubbock on Sept. 24 to face Texas Tech. Sarkisian’s team will return home to face the West Virginia Mountaineers in Austin on Oct. 1.
The 2022 Red River Shootout will be on Oct. 8 in the Cotton Bowl in Dallas. Texas will be the visiting team for the 118th meeting between the two teams.
Texas then hosts Matt Campbell’s Iowa State Cyclones on Oct. 15 before traveling to T. Boone Pickens Stadium on Oct. 22 to face the Oklahoma State Cowboys.
The 2022 season’s open week comes at the end of October, with Texas having the weekend of the 29th off. They resume the season with a trip to Manhattan, Kan. to face the Kansas State Wildcats on Nov. 5th. Following K-State is another purple institution in TCU led by new head coach Sonny Dykes.
Texas travels to Lawrence, Kan. on Nov. 19 to face Kansas before ending the season at home on Nov. 26 versus the Baylor Bears.
The Big 12 Championship game is scheduled for Dec. 3 in Arlington at AT&T Stadium. The No. 1 and No. 2 teams in the Big 12 regular season standings will face each other at the neutral site.
2022 will be Sarkisian’s second season as head coach of the Texas Longhorns. He finished his first year in Austin 5-7. His record as a head coach is 51-42.
