In this edition of On Texas Football, Joe Cook and Justin Wells deliver the 2023 National Signing Day recap with a focus on linebacker and Jeff Choate’s brilliance. They look at the portal signees, and what to look forward to in the 2024 cycle in this latest edition.

- Joe and Justin start with recapping the opening of the National Signing Day period on Wednesday. They focus on linebacker and coach Jeff Choate who brought in one of the top LB hauls in the nation for the 2023 cycle. From Anthony Hill Jr, Liona Lefau, Derion Gullette, and S’Maje Burrell, Choate cemented himself with an outstanding cycle. They discuss Lefau and his opportunity ti have an instant impact on the Texas defense and how his style will fit into Austin nicely.
- Joe and Justin discuss the transfer portal additions in Ryan Sanborn and Gavin Holmes. Sanborn, grad transfer from Stanford, fits a need at punter for special teams coach Jeff Banks. Holmes is a ready-made corner from Wake Forest who will look to play early on the Forty Acres. They also discuss the other positions Texas will pursue like EDGE, linebacker, safety, and wide receiver.
- Joe and Justin finish it with a look at the must-get prospects in the Class of 2024. Micah Hudson, Michael Uini, and Colin Simmons. Hudson is the top-rated wide receiver and a priority for the Horns. Uini is the top-rated offensive lineman in-state and his relationship with Texas is growing, while Simmons is the On3 No. 6 overall prospect and legit edge-backer that UT needs in the program.
