Sights and sounds: Texas commits and targets in action

The high school football season got under way this week in many states around the country.

The list of teams that took the field Friday night included the IMG Academy Ascenders led by Texas commitments Jerrick Gibson and Jordon Johnson-Rubell.

Texas defensive line commitment D’Antre Robinson had an impressive showing in the Kickoff Classic at Camping World Stadium in Orlando. And then there was big time defensive line target Dominick McKinley turning in yet another highlight reel interception and score.

Jerrick Gibson running with authority

The IMG Academy Ascenders defeated the Lipscomb Mustangs 35-10 Friday. Jerrick Gibson had a number of impressive runs in the blowout victory, including a couple that appeared on social media.

Gibson flashed his quick cutting ability with long speed at 207-pounds. He finished with 171 yards and two scores on 14 carries.

IMG Academy returns to the field August 26 at St. Joseph’s Prep in Philadelphia.

D’Antre Robinson and Jones High win big

Orlando (Fla.) Jones high put a very impressive win on the board Friday night in the Kickoff Classic. Jones took down a very good Tampa (Fla.) Jesuit team 38-18.

The Texas commit talked about the big win over Tampa Jesuit following the game.

Orlando (Fla.) Jones takes on Cocoa High August 25 to get the regular season started.

Dominick McKinley does it again

On3 Industry Ranking 5-star defensive lineman and Texas target Dominick McKinley may make more highlight reel interceptions that any defensive tackle prospect in recent memory.

His junior season highlights included a pair of interceptions, and his senior campaign began the same way.

McKinley is scheduled to announce his commitment September 1. Texas and Oklahoma are considered the two favorites with Ohio State the sleeper. LSU and Texas A&M remain in the mix.

Harlem Berry with a catch and juke TD

Texas 2025 running back targets put together impressive performances Friday. Pelican State jet Harlem Berry had a highlight reel run after the catch.

LSU is considered the early leader over Florida and Texas for the No. 19 ranked prospect in the 2025 cycle. He’s currently ranked as the No. 1 running back.

Jordan Davison would not be denied

Texas is all in on Mater Dei (Calif.) High 2025 running back Jordon Davison. The 6-foot, 210-pound instinctive back with terrific vision is considered a slight Texas lean over Ohio State and USC headed into the season. And he showed the reason why he’s coveted by the Longhorns Friday in No. 1 ranked nationally Mater Dei’s 28-14 win over No. 12 ranked nationally Corona (Calif.) Centennial.

Davison finished the contest of nationally ranked powers with 112 yards rushing and a score.
