The Texas Longhorns’ Class of 2023 and 2024 were in full effect at the 2022 UIL state championships from AT&T Stadium in Arlington over the weekend. All have more than UT in common; they’re all state champs.

Malik Muhammad, CB, Dallas (Texas) South Oak Cliff

The 6-foot, 180-pound On3 four-star was quiet in the first half, with Port Neches-Groves taking the early 17-5 lead late in the first half. But SOC scored right before the end of the half, and stretched that to 29 unanswered points en route to a 34-24 win in the 5A DII state championship.

Muhammad announced his presence with authority early in the third quarter. He gathered a tipped ball and took it all the way to the house. His pick-six was a huge statement that the Golden Bears wanted to keep that state title in the southside of Dallas.

Billy Walton, EDGE, Dallas (Texas) South Oak Cliff

Walton led a strong defensive front for South Oak Cliff, contributing a 1/2 sack safety in the second quarter. He added five tackles, three quarterback hurries, and one sack in his last performance with the Golden Bears.

The On3 three-star EDGE is in Austin today for the recruiting weekend.

Jaden Allen, CB, Aledo (Texas) – 2024

You won’t see much from Allen in the box score. That’s what happens when you’re a lockdown corner on the island. Allen tallied five tackles (two solo), and one pass breakup for the Bearcats in helping Aledo secure its 10th state championship in 15 years.

Allen wants to return to Austin this weekend, his tells Inside Texas. He’ll be in attendance for the Texas-Washington Alamo Bowl to watch his older brother, BJ Allen, freshman safety for the Longhorns.

Johntay Cook, WR, Desoto (Texas)

The Texas commit duo of Cook and Tre Wisner were on full display in the Desoto-Vandegrift matchup.

Cook tallied 103 yards and one touchdown on three catches. He saw a good amount of double-coverage on Saturday, something the 6-foot-0, 175-pound On3 four-star was used to over the last two seasons for the Eagles.

Tre Wisner, RB, Desoto (Texas)

Wisner came to play on Saturday. Double-digit touches (carries and catches) kept the On3 four-star involved all day long in the 6A DII state championship.

Wisner added 214 total yards, on 11 touches, and two touchdowns. He was outstanding on a day that Desoto really needed him. He’s ready to hit Austin in June.

Wisner capped a spectacular day with this big play.
