Garth’s only appearances in burnt orange were in the most recent season. He made his collegiate debut in the Longhorns’ 58-0 win over the Rice Owls, then appeared the following week in Texas’ 70-35 win over the Texas Tech Red Raiders.

Garth redshirted in 2020, but his career both at Port Neches (Texas) Port Neches-Groves and on the Forty Acres was hampered by injury. Garth suffered multiple knee injuries throughout his time at Texas that stunted his development.

A member of the class of 2020, Garth was the Longhorns’ highest-rated offensive lineman according to the On3 Consensus. He was the No. 230 overall prospect, the No. 25 offensive tackle, and the No. 33 player in Texas according to the On3 Consensus.

Garth’s limited playing time through the first three years of his career, plus the influx of talent in the 2022 class, made finding playing time an uphill battle for the Golden Triangle product. Along with being a better fit for previous offensive systems, Garth’s path to playing time had been cut off by younger players like Kelvin Banks, Hayden Conner and Andrej Karic.

Transfer portal background information

The NCAA transfer portal, which covers every NCAA sport at the Division I, II and III levels, is a private database with names of student-athletes who wish to transfer. It is not accessible to the public.

Once a player’s name shows up in the portal, other schools can contact the player. Players can change their minds at any point and withdraw from the portal. However, once a player enters the portal, the current scholarship no longer has to be honored. In other words, if a player enters the portal but decides to stay, the school is not obligated to provide a scholarship anymore.

The database is a normal database, sortable by a variety of topics, including (of course) sport and name. A player’s individual entry includes basic details such as contact info, whether the player was on scholarship and whether the player is transferring as a graduate student.

A player can ask that a “do not contact” tag be placed on the report. In those instances, the players don’t want to be  contacted by schools unless they’ve initiated the communication.
