Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian had his first game week press conference of the year on Monday and announced three injury updates. Sarkisian confirmed Inside Texas reporting when he announced freshman wide receiver Jaden Alexis would miss the 2021 season due to knee surgery, and freshman wide receiver Troy Omeire would miss the first game versus Louisiana as a result of a knee injury suffered during an open practice on August 18.

Sarkisian also announced sophomore tight end Brayden Liebrock would require shoulder surgery and would miss the 2021 season.

Alexis, a 6-foot-0 receiver out of Monarch High School in Pompano Beach, Fla., enrolled early as a part of the class of 2021. He had over 35 offers including Alabama, Brown, Duke, Florida State, Georgia, Harvard, and several others.

Alexis earned the nickname “Lil’ Odell” from fellow players based off his hands and route running. He was likely to see meaningful action in 2021 as a freshman.

Omeire, a 6-foot-3, 220-pound receiver from Fort Bend Austin High School, missed the entire 2020 season after tearing his ACL during preseason training camp last year. He is expected to be one of the front line wide receivers for the Longhorns.

Liebrock, a 6-foot-4, 228-pound tight end from Chandler High School in Chandler, Ariz., has played in six games during his Texas career. He caught two passes for 11 yards against UTEP in the 2020 season opener. He is part of a crowded tight end room that saw three additions in the 2021 class. Freshmen tight ends Gunnar Helm, Juan Davis, and Ja’Tavion Sanders will try to factor in behind Cade Brewer and Jared Wiley.

Those were the only Texas injury updates offered by Sarkisian on Monday. Texas plays Louisiana for the first game under Sarkisian on Saturday in Austin. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. and will be televised on Fox.
