J.D.'s CFP Rankings After Week 3

Week 4 of college football is on the horizon after an exciting first three weeks of action. Plenty of teams kicked off conference play this past week and with many more set to do so this weekend, FanDuel has released the point spreads for some of the biggest matchups.

We saw Colorado survive in double overtime in Week 3 after Travis Hunter went down with injury and didn’t return. Similarly, Florida State narrowly escaped Boston College as Jordan Travis suffered an early injury, though he later re-entered the game. In the SEC, Alabama struggled against South Florida on the road as it totaled just 107 yards passing.

Week 4 of college football has a chance to be even more exciting with six matchups between teams ranked in the AP top 25. None of those games carry more weight than Ohio State at Notre Dame, but there are several others to get excited for as well. You can view the point spreads for every Week 4 game, according to FanDuel, below.

No. 4 Florida State (-2.5) at Clemson

College Football Week 4
Eric Canha-USA TODAY Sports

Details: Noon ET on Saturday, Sept. 23 on ABC
The Seminoles and Tigers were thought to be the frontrunners to win the ACC this preseason. With Clemson losing in Week 1 to Duke, however, Florida State has a chance to take a two-game lead on it in the early conference standings.

The Tigers rebounded with wins in the past two weeks against a pair of lower-level opponents. However, their offense will truly be put to the test in keeping up with FSU, which through three games ranks seventh in the country in points per game (47.3). They do have the advantage of playing at home, and Vegas seems to think that’ll be enough to keep this one close.

Auburn at Texas A&M (-7)

College Football Week 4
Maria Lysaker-USA TODAY Sports

Details: Noon ET on Saturday, Sept. 23 on ESPN
Texas A&M missed an opportunity to earn a big nonconference win against Miami in Week 2, falling out of the AP poll as a result. The Aggies will hope their SEC opener leads to better results as they should continue to lean on the passing game with weapons such as Evan Stewart and Ainias Smith.

A&M so far ranks 11th in the country with 337.3 passing yards per game but faces an Auburn defense that has allowed just 155.0 air yards on average so far. The Tigers are off to a 3-0 start under first-year coach Hugh Freeze but enter as slight underdogs on the road in College Station.

No. 19 Colorado at No. 10 Oregon (-21.5)

College Football Week 4
Ron Chenoy-USA TODAY Sports

Details: 3:30 p.m. ET on Saturday, Sept. 23 on ABC
Colorado survived a scare against Colorado State on Saturday but managed to escape 43-35 in double overtime. The Buffaloes are now off to a 3-0 start under first-year coach Deion Sanders but will run into their biggest test yet on the road against a legitimate College Football Playoff contender in Oregon. They’ll be without Travis Hunter, who suffered an injury in the first half of Week 3.

Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders has been one of the best players to start the season, currently ranking second in the FBS with 1,251 passing yards and 10 touchdowns. The Ducks also boast one of the top signal callers in the country with Bo Nix, who has eight touchdowns and no interceptions through three games. That’ll be an interesting battle in a game that should be high-scoring.

No. 22 UCLA at No. 11 Utah (-4.5)

College Football Week 4
Rob Gray-USA TODAY Sports

Details: 3:30 p.m. ET on Saturday, Sept. 23 on FOX
Utah has been without quarterback Cam Rising for the first three games, but that hasn’t stopped the Utes from taking out a pair of Power 5 opponents on their way to a 3-0 start. They’ve done so behind the nation’s No. 9 scoring defense and a rushing attack that features Ja’Quinden Jackson and quarterback Nate Johnson.

That defense will be put to the test against a Bruins offense that ranks third in the FBS with 8.6 yards per play. Five-star freshman Dante Moore has been impressive at quarterback, and running backs Carson Steele and TJ Harden have complemented him well on the ground. We’ll see whether that will be enough to beat a Utes team that could again be shorthanded.

No. 15 Ole Miss at No. 13 Alabama (-7)

John David Mercer-USA TODAY Sports

Details: 3:30 p.m. ET on Saturday, Sept. 23 on CBS
Quarterback continues to be an area of concern for Alabama three games into the season. Jalen Milroe was benched last week in favor of Tyler Buchner after the former threw a pair of interceptions in a 34-24 loss to Texas in Week 2. Buchner didn’t fare much better going 5-of-14 for 34 yards before Ty Simpson replaced him in a narrow 17-3 road win against South Florida.

Ole Miss also had a three-way quarterback battle to start the season, but Jaxson Dart has completely taken the reigns at this point. Not only does he have 852 yards passing, seven touchdowns and an interception, but he also leads the team in rushing. With Alabama seemingly trending downward, this could be an opportunity for Lane Kiffin to earn his first win against Nick Saban.

No. 14 Oregon State (-2.5) at No. 21 Washington State

Soobum Im-USA TODAY Sports

Details: 7 p.m. ET on Saturday, Sept. 23 on FOX
This is the third Pac-12 game featuring a pair of ranked opponents, a sign of just how strong the conference is this season. Like the others, it will feature a pair of quarterbacks who have been up there with some of the best in the country to start the year.

Cougars QB Cameron Ward quietly ranks third in the Pac-12 with 986 yards, nine touchdowns and no interceptions. He also leads the team with 95 yards rushing and a pair of touchdowns. Similarly, DJ Uiagalelei has fit in well at Oregon State after transferring from Clemson, as he has 630 yards passing, six touchdowns and two interceptions.

Arkansas at No. 12 LSU (-17.5)

Matt Bush-USA TODAY Sports

Details: 7 p.m. ET on Saturday, Sept. 23 on ESPN
LSU receiver Malik Nabers was electric in the conference opener against Mississippi State as he finished with 13 catches for 239 yards and two touchdowns. It was the response the Tigers were hoping for as they won 41-14 and now look like the early favorite to win the SEC West for the second straight year.

To do so, they’ll have to get past a Razorbacks team that is coming off of a 38-31 loss to BYU on Saturday. The road team has won each of the past three games in this series, with every contest being decided by only a field goal. One key piece of news to keep an eye on will be whether Arkansas running back Rocket Sanders plays after missing the past two games with a knee injury.

No. 3 Texas (-14.5) at Baylor

Mikala Compton/Austin American-Statesman / USA TODAY NETWORK

Details: 7:30 p.m. ET on Saturday, Sept. 23 on ABC
Preseason predictions on the Longhorns look to be accurate as they’re off to a 3-0 start with a marquee win against Alabama in Tuscaloosa. Now they’ll kick off Big 12 play as they begin their quest to claim a conference title in their final season in the league.

Quarterback Quinn Ewers is off to a strong start with 740 yards passing, eight touchdowns and no interceptions so far. Baylor is just 1-2 to start the year, including an embarrassing loss to Texas State in Week 1, so this should be a game Texas can win with little issue.

No. 6 Ohio State (-3) at No. 9 Notre Dame

Kyle Robertson/Columbus Dispatch / USA TODAY NETWORK

Details: 7:30 p.m. ET on Saturday, Sept. 23 on NBC
The only matchup between two top 10 opponents in Week 4, this game will be one college football fans don’t want to miss. The Fighting Irish have scored at least 40 points in all four of their games as Sam Hartman is one of just five quarterbacks to throw for at least 1,000 yards so far.

Ohio State, on the other hand, has fallen from No. 3 to No. 6 in the AP poll after struggling in the first two weeks. The Buckeyes delivered a strong performance in Week 3 to beat Western Kentucky by a score of 63-10. Kyle McCord had his best outing of the year to go 19-of-23 passing for 318 yards and three touchdowns and will hope that carries over against a strong Notre Dame defense.

No. 24 Iowa at No. 7 Penn State (-14)

Dan Rainville / USA TODAY NETWORK

Details: 7:30 p.m. ET on Saturday, Sept. 23 on CBS
Penn State kicked off Big Ten play with a 30-13 victory against Illinois in Week 3 and will hope to keep rolling against Iowa. The Nittany Lions have looked impressive on both sides of the ball so far and could be in for a defensive battle on Saturday.

Both Penn State and Iowa rank inside the top 20 in scoring defense to start the season. The real question is whether the Hawkeyes’ offense can put up enough points to keep this game competitive. They’ve looked slightly improved from last year to start the season, but still rank near the bottom of the FBS with 4.9 yards per play.
