The historic Backyard Brawl rivalry had a chance to receive some national recognition, but West Virginia dropped the ball.

For weeks, there has been speculation that ESPN’s iconic pregame, College GameDay, could be in the Morgantown prior to Pitt vs. West Virginia.

That was confirmed to be a fact by the lead member of the crew.

Last night during the broadcast of Oklahoma vs. Michigan, Kirk Herbstreit announced that for Week 3, College GameDay would be in Knoxville prior to Georgia vs. Tennessee. However, he also said that if West Virginia had defeated Ohio University that the plan was to be in Morgantown for Pitt/West Virginia.

The Mountaineers struggled on Saturday as they fell to Ohio University, 17-10.

The biggest problem for the Mountaineers was their offensive as quarterback Nico Marchiol threw for only 178 yards and they were only able to rush for 72 yards. To make matters worse, starting running back Jahiem White was carted to the locker room late in the 2nd quarter with a leg injury.

Despite the outcome on Saturday, the 2025 Backyard Brawl will have buzz as the crowd in Morgantown will be alive and the game will be competitive because major rivalries always are.

Although, they’re the road team, the oddsmakers in Vegas will likely install Pitt as the favorites.

Kickoff from Milan Puskar Stadium will take place at 3:30 pm and the game will be televised on ESPN.
