Abby Steiner finishes fifth in 200-meter sprint at World Track and Field Championships

Kentucky product Abby Steiner got a chance to compete on the biggest stage in the world on Thursday night. The sprinter more than held her own.
In the final of the 200-meter dash at the World Track and Field Championships, the Dublin (Ohio) Coffman alum finished fifth with a run of 22.26 seconds out in Eugene, Oregon.
Jamaica’s Shericka Jackson set a record with a 21.46 time to earn a gold medal in the event. The world-class sprinter was the heavy favorite in the event.
The performance for Steiner was a step back after the sprinter logged 22.15 time in the semifinal heat. However, the record pace set by Jackson was going to be very hard to top.

Steiner made a return to Hayward Field where there were many good vibes. The sprinter set the collegiate record in the 200m there at the NCAA Championships in June and won her first national title at the USATF Championships.
Now it’s back to training for the former Kentucky star with all eyes on 2024 for a chance to compete in the Olympics.
