John Calipari was named UK's head coach 11 years ago today

Believe it or not, it’s been exactly 11 years since John Calipari was announced as the next head basketball coach for the University of Kentucky. Time flies when you’re having fun, right?

The UK basketball Twitter account had some fun with Coach Cal’s anniversary with the Wildcats, and the account posted a video from his introductory press conference. The quote they included is all you need to hear to know Calipari has been the same since his first day with the program.

“I’m a regular guy folks. I do not walk on water; I do not have a magic wand. I’m day to day. I told [former UK president Dr. Lee Todd Jr.] and Mitch [Barnhart], if you want something to happen in a year, do not hire me. That’s not how I do things,” Calipari said. “But when we get it right, you’ll notice we’re No. 1 in the country, we’re No. 1 seeds, and we’re playing in Final Fours – when you get it right.”

I think Kentucky got it right, don’t you?

In that very same press conference, KSR’s own Matt Jones asked Kentucky’s new head coach a question. What did Coach Cal know about the team he was inheriting?

Apparently not too much, at least if you take Calipari at his word. But for him, it’s always been a players-first program.

Also found in the YouTube archives? Matt Jones taking himself on a tour of Coach Cal’s 2009 office. He’ll take a look at Calipari’s office decor, musical taste, a very-dated flat screen TV, and even his shower…

Treat yourself to a laugh and take a look for yourself:

What’s been your favorite moment from the past 11 years?
