MESSAGE BOARD POST OF THE DAY

What Happens If FSU & Clemson Bail from the ACC Before 7-01-24 … Posted by 289FIA

The ACC is in a very weak position as the current media agreement with ESPN terminates on 6/30/27. Only 3 more seasons with the current contract. IF FSU / Clemson bail in the next month or two THEN the conference member ship falls below 15 and the “composition clause” kicks in which enables ESPN to cancel the current media payout agreement and propose a new one for the balance of the CURRENT agreement. That would mean if FSU / Clemson are out effective 2025, UM would be in a conference that will potentially receive $25M per school in media rights rather than the current $40M. ALSO … the CFP contract has a “look in clause” that permits them to restructure the CONFERENCE PAYOUT in the event of “future conference realignment”. That clause isn’t there by mistake … they KNOW teams are leaving the ACC and when they do the conference payout will be LOWERED.

There is also a comment by one connected person stating “ESPN has already declined the option to extend the media agreement (past 6/30/27) and all conference members might not have been advised on a timely basis”. If that IS fact … then the ACC conference has no media partner agreement past the 2026 football season. ESPN felt the business model was no longer of interest and passed. So if the ACC is receiving only $25M going forward for 25-26 seasons, and has NO media agreement past that … and we know the CFP distribution to the ACC will be lowered …. WHY would any responsible AD or university BOT and president believe REMAINING in the ACC is a good thing?

A school like Miami, that has FINALLY made the decision to INVEST in the football program after a 20 year period of milking the successes of the 90’s, needs to be aggressively exploring their options to get into the P2, ideally with the Big 10. Signals are coming from EVERY FRONT …. Rich Eisen Show on Youtube “Casey Wasserman on the Seismic Shifts coming to College Football”. “you are either in the P2 competing and growing, or you are in a developmental league that supplies them with players”. THAT is what the B12 and ACC (if one remains) are slated to become … developmental leagues in which the most talented players that emerge in their 2nd and 3rd seasons, leave for the P2 and either NIL or Salaries that the “developmental leagues” cannot compete with.

@Wakeforlaw used similar terminology in one of his observations a couple of weeks ago “changes of a seismic nature” are coming to college football and the ACC is not positioned to compete or possibly even exist. The University of Miami administration needs to aggressively be getting out in front of this and not be left behind with a surprised look on their collective faces. It is becoming clear that by the 2026 season the P2 will be financially dominant, followed by the B12 which is currently on a level similar to the ACC, and the ACC, poached of the top 2-4 programs, will be coming in significantly lower than even the B12. I am hoping that UM ends up … soon … in the Big 10. FSU at this point could end up in either the B10 or SEC, it all depends on MEDIA PARTNER decisions that are being made totally separate from AD’s and university presidents.

Times they are a changing!!

MIAMI HURRICANES QUOTE OF THE DAY

“It was my first time meeting coach Jackson since the coaching change. He’s really outspoken and talks to me like I’m one of his sons. He treats me like family, so that’s what really stood out.”
