WHAT’S UP TODAY

First up this morning in your Miami Hurricanes news?

Be sure to check out all our coverage off yesterday’s spring practice with a scrimmage coming up tomorrow. We had feedback from coach Mario Cristobal and players.

Also don’t miss our update with Clinton Portis. The former Cane great was on hand for Thursday’s practice and shares his thoughts … and brought along his two sons who are recruits in the Class of 2026. So be sure to check that out.

In recruiting?

Plenty more news,

It starts with Milton (Ga.) Cambridge three-star 2025 interior offensive lineman Gabe Smith. He was in Coral Gables for an unofficial visit with the Miami Hurricanes yesterday, and by the time he left he had an official visit with the program set for later this summer. Find out what he’s talking about. We also catch up with another Thursday visitor, 4-star 2026 RB Javian Mallory, for his thoughts.

Then there was Leesburg (Ga.) Lee County four-star 2025 running back Ousmane Kromah, the nation’s No. 4 RB, breaking down where things stand with Miami ahead of his weekend visit to UM.

Another key visitor this weekend? That’s the nation’s top rated safety in the 2025 class, Shaker Heights (Ohio) 2025 four-star Trey McNutt. We catch up with him.

Also, since receiving an offer from the Miami Hurricanes earlier this year in January, Augusta (Ga.) Cedar Grover 2026 four-star wide receiver Devin Carter has been eager to get down to Coral Gables. During the last weekend of March the talented pass-catcher got an in-depth look at the program after spending the day in South Florida on campus. Find out what he’s saying.

And, as always, stay tuned today for any news that may come up.

MESSAGE BOARD POST OF THE DAY

Need for transfers should shrink looking to future … Posted by eplanas

Miami has had consecutive ELITE recruiting classes and look to be on pace for another. You can see specific position groups being loaded with talent and no longer needing transfers going forward. Some positions just waiting for younger players to develop. Roster is just about fully turned now So I do expect the needs to drop going forward. Just look at the groups.

QB – If reports on Poff and Emory accurate, keep developing and they stay – they probably compete to start while develop Judd and Nickel. No transfer needed unless Poff leaves this year and Emory doesn’t develop.

RB – If Fletcher comes back healthy and Lyle looks good with Chris Johnson and 2 more recruits coming in, no need for transfers.

TE – If Riley develops and Lofton is the real deal probably just add through recruiting even if Arroyo has a big year and decides to go pro (not saying it’s likely).

OL – Most positions except center look to have quality even if Cooper leaves. Maybe a transfer at center depending on development of Tripp and Franchovilla (?). Any other transfers would be if an elite stater is available or maybe depth if want to season young recruits more.

TE – If stay healthy no transfers needed.

WR – If Trader and Carr are real and players like Horton, Robinson and others develop should only target big time transfers in portal and not filler. If can land one now elite recruiting class here shouldn’t need transfers going forward.

DT – Added a lot of talent last year, but this is a position that typically takes multiple years to develop. Might need 1 or 2 more transfers next year. but hopefully none after.

DE – Added a lot of talent these last 2 cycles. if the freshmen can develop physically during this next year shouldn’t need any transfers. Maybe consider if a real difference maker is available.

LB – Really stacked a lot of talent the last 2 cycles. Shouldn’t need any transfers going forward.

CB & S. We have added some numbers in recruiting under Mario but not a lot of elite talent. it’s possible some of these guys step up to be playable and solid players. But other than Zaquon and maybe Damari, not sure I see any difference makers. May need to look for those in portal as we try to turn around recruiting here like we did with DT last year. Given how many responsibilities the safeties have in Guidry’s scheme, may need some seasoned transfers for another year or 2 there.

MIAMI HURRICANES QUOTE OF THE DAY

“Emory (Williams) and Reese (Poffenbarger) have really done a good job of staying on those heels of Cam (Ward). Cam has taken the one reps and he deserves it, has earned that. Both Emory and Reese are kind of right after that. Then you see a lot of really good things from Jacurri (Brown) and Judd Anderson in the limited reps he gets. You see a guy that is also going to be a really good player down the line.”
